 Hi everyone.
Well, not sure how I stumbled upon this site(was surfing info on migrainal vertigo) but saw where some people were discussing visual episodes simular to mine. I have had vertigo off and on for yrs, finally diagnosed about two yrs ago(with no details, just told to take meclizine) and gave up my insurance shortly after that(what a dummy I was:rolleyes: ). I recently joined a vertigo forum, but most everyone there is suffering mainly from dizziness or nausea and that is about the extent of thiers(no doubt that is it's own can of worms), but no one there seemed to understand the strange visual effect I was having too. Ie:
*room appearing to flip at a 90 degree angle
*everything looking and feeling as though it is shaking, swaying or tilting
*view getting darker(as if it were suddenly dusk) and perifriels going dark.

the symptoms vary day by day, but dizziness, and nausea are a part of that too. These episodes used to happen weeks or months apart, but have been pretty much daily(to some degree or another) for the last 5-6 weeks. Insurance should kick in in about another 6 weeks, but meanwhile this is nervewracking for myself, and family.
I know the posts I saw originally here were dated from 2003, and gave some descriptions/names for the different kinds of vertigo(what happens by view or to external objects, and what is more of a feeling/sensation).

Anyone here now that has had these symptoms?

HI there,

I think some people do get visual effects to a certain degree. I have migrainous vertigo - my biggest problems are a spacey, disconnected, trippy sensation, some vertigo, but a huge problem now is sensitivity to light. I spent four weeks recently almost unable to leave the house due to 24/7 sensitivity to daylight. I think when it comes to migraine everyone experiences it a little differently. I know I am atypical in having the photosensitivity for weeks on end 24/7.

With the extent of symptoms you're have having - the way to go is a daily migraine preventative - I did great taking a beta blocker daily - propanonol - for over a year. Unfortunately I had a relapse recently due to a very stressful event, but I have upped my daily dose and am seeing signs of improvement. Many people have got totally well with the use of a daily preventative. When you're insurance kicks in you should get one. Something you could do without insurance is to take co enzyme Q10 - 300mg daily. This is a natural supplement that has, in trials, proven to be as effective as a drug. Another thing that has also been trialled with good results is vitamin B2 - 400mg daily. I was given this info by two different neurologists.

The better I get the more the visual problems subside. The same would almost certainly apply to you. Meclizine isn't a daily preventative and would do nothing at all for that side of things.

best,

Hbep,
Thanks for your post. My husband mentioned something about co Q10 a couple of months ago. Heard it has proven beneficial in lots of things, I may try that...thanks :)
I have trouble with light also, has been pretty much constant for about two weeks now, even cloudy days has my eyes watering. Fortunately it's still dark when I go to work, so coming home is the only time I have to really deal with the light very much. Your right, the meclizine doesn't seem to do any good, and pretty much gave up after this last bottle.
I have noticed that I am clenching my teeth almost constantly now, I know this can't be good, but not sure why I am doing it either. I catch myself and try to stop.
I am glad to hear your symptoms are subsiding, that is very encouraging. I hope you continue to improve, keep me posted on how you are doing and what's working for you :)
