It was a year ago today that I had my tonsillectomy! I can't believe it's been a year already, wow! :blob_fire
People often come here and ask whether the surgery is worth it after they read all of the horror stories. Having been through it and survived, I really do believe it's worth it.
I used to suffer from terrible sleep apnea as well as choking whenever I tried to eat or drink anything. My tonsils were huge! My mom told me that after my surgery was over and the ENT came out to the waiting area to get her, his first words were, "They were HUGE!" so, yeah, they had to come out.
The temporary after-effects, while bothersome, eventually do pass. I experienced all of the stuff you guys are now going through, from the loss of taste to the pain when yawning to those extremely violent sneezes! I just want you guys to know that it all gets better, eventually. It takes time, though. TIME is the only thing that heals this surgery completely. You can't expect to feel better as quickly as some of you are wanting to. It was about 2 months post-surgery that I really started feeling sort of normal again. But I remember there was still some lingering loss of taste that finally went away gradually after about 3 months. Now I'm totally back to normal and all is well.
And most of all, I have only gotten sick once since I had the surgery, and it was not a throat-related problem! It skipped right over my throat and went to my lungs in the form of bronchitis and my nose in the form of a sinus infection. That was just this past February (2 months ago). But that was the first and only time I'd gotten sick at all since I had my tonsils out!
Guys, it's not a fun time to recover from this surgery. But speaking as someone who had it done and survived and has a year behind them now..... It is definitely do-able, and it's something that helped me a lot with my problems. I know it can do the same for others, too!
Good luck to everyone who is going through it now or who has yet to have it done! Don't give up! Because it DOES get better, I promise! :)
