I have had problems with flaking of my eyebrows now
for about three or four years, but nothing helps. After
flaking there remains a scalb. When it peels off there is
a burning. One doctor gave me desoximetasone cr o.25
which helped as long as I used it, but never cleared it up.
My present doctor gave me some samples of Amlactin 12%
moisturizing lotion which only helps temporarily. I can't
seem to find anyone that can identify this problem. Does
anyone have an answer? The flakiness does not itch, but
just looks bad. There is some of this condition between my
eyes above my nose as well.

As long as there is no broken skin or scabs, try washing your eyebrows with a SMALL amount of MILD dandruff shampoo.

think of that? I thought for awhile I would have to make
an appointment with an eyebrow specialist... :)

I have this problem too. I try to remember to use the dandruff shampoo on my eyebrows in the shower, but usually forget. I bet it would work if I kept up with it, although it might be too rough and make some hairs fall out.
What I've been doing is applying cold cream to my eyebrows, letting it sit for a few minutes, then wiping it offwith a tissue. It keeps the flakes away for at least a day.
I was told taking omega-3 will clear up dry skin as well. Good luck.

I believe that I'm already seeing some improvement, but I
will try to keep up the treatment for at least a couple of
weeks. When my dandruff kicks up, it usually takes a week
or two to really see some difference.

i have this problem too
but if i rub shampoo on it im scared that they will break and fall off
and right now a lot of them have fallen off
anyone know how to keep the eyebrows from flaking and breaking?

I've got flaky skin in my eyebrows too, have for 10 years. We put lotion on our dry skin to help so when I get out of the shower I put regular old body lotion/hand lotion in my eyebrows and it works every time. I've always assumed it was just dry skin.

You describe symptoms of Seborrheic Dermatitis.
Apply apple cider vinegar daily and allow to dry. Dilute 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water. Remission will last several days and possibly weeks. The cause is an inflamatory reaction to fatty acids pruduced by normal skin flora. Yeast of the Mallassezia genus is causative. The inflamatory reaction is not fully understood and effects 3-5% of the population. Dandruff is the non-inflamatory milder form of SD. Dandruff shampoos which are anti-fungal will often work but may need to be rotated.
Sugar free and yeast free diet will improve the condition. Topical anti-fungal shampoos will kill the Mallassezia yeast as will acidifying the skin with apple cider vinegar. Tea tree oil likewise. Cure is not possible. The yeast will return. Mallazesia is everywhere. Unfortunately you have an adverse reaction probably a genetic susceptability.
Aloe vera gel is soothing and forms a protective barrier to aid healing. Also has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial qualities.

Thank you for the diagnosis. I had asked two or three doctors in the past, but none had given me a reason for the flareup or anything that helped.
