I visited my M.D. today for an eye exam because my vision was getting worse. I had Lasex in 2001. I am 49 years old. My M.D. said that I have the retinas of a 65 year old. He is waiting to view the records of my lasex surgery which was done in another state.

What can cause this? How concerned should I be? I wished I had asked more questions. I go back to him in 3 weeks.

My doctor told me that people who are very near-sighted are more apt to have retinal detachments and that having lasik surgery would not make detachments any less likely. Did you have your lasik surgery to correct near-sightedness? If so, perhaps the condition of your retinas are a result of that near-sightedness.

Thanks for replying. Actually my doctor did not say anything about retinal detachments. He just said I have the retinas of a 65 year old. I have researched the web for countless hours and can't find anyone who has experienced this. I know I am not creating medical history here. I just want to know what might cause this, and what those other patients experienced.

I had the laser surgery to correct near-sightedness in one eye and far-sightedness in the other. The doc said that one answer is that I may have been born with this, but beyond that he had no answers yet. One thing that troubled him was that he could not get my vision corrected using different strength lenses.

Thanks again for you reply!
