Hello everyone, I was on BC pill for 3 years and got off since I wanted to conceive. After getting off I starting gaining weight. I was at 131lbs and now I'm at 202lbs!!!!. I first went to my obgyn to discuss why my perion would skip 2 months and come on for 2 months. i was getting weak and having to wear 2 pads and change every 2 hours. Well, they sent me to a infertility clinic who told me about PCOS and fibroids (which were removed) and my insulin level was too high. He put me on metformin started with 5oomg a day then increase to 1500mg a day. I have been to an endo (hormone specialist) and he just increase my dosage to the 2000mg. Im on the urge of breaking down at this point. I keep gaining weight instead of losing. I want to first lose the weight then conceive. It may seem strange but if I get pregnant first, the doctor told me that I will develope type 2 and not be able to reverse it. I cry almost everyday about it becuase it is effecting my self esteem. I NEVER been this heavy. I also havent seen my period since november 06 and I'm even considering liposuction. I need help on what to do to loose the weight. I do have faith in God to heal me though, but I believe a lot of you reading this can be my angels. Please help....

I'm sorry for what you are going through. It sounds like you have more going on besides PCOS. Has the doc determined that is the cause of all you problems? I would make another appointment, even if I had to change docs & get some help.

Hang in there!

If you are Insulin Resistant, there is a higher chance that you will develop Type 2 Diabetes if your IR is not treated. There is NO guarantee that it will turn into Diabetes, but most likely, it will lead to that. So, yes, you definately want to get your IR treated, if that is what they suspect you have.

What type of specialist are you seeing? If you aren't, definately see a Reproductive Endocrinologist. They specialize in infertility as well as PCOS and other hormonal syndromes/disorders and would be able to do what is best for you!

PCOS is most definately a hassle, but it can be controlled. You just have to experiment and find out what works best for you.

As for having a baby, don't give up. It is most definately possible. It may take more for PCOS women to conceive, but it is not impossible! Stay strong.

To answer your question, yes I have PCOS, and I have been to a obgyn, infertility doctor, and an endo(hormone) doctor. they all say the same thing, "they have not figured out a cause for PCOS or a cure. So the only thing they can do is treat it. So I'm on Metformin taking 2000mg/Day. But my concern is my weight. I go to the hormone doctor on the 25th but if you have any suggestions on what questions I should ask him. please let me know. Thank you so much.

They are right about there being no cure for PCOS. Since symptoms vary, there is a wide range of treatment options out there as well.

Well, the metformin is a good start. Metformin for whatever reason does help to regulate hormones, which is what we need. You may notice results right away, or you may find out that it really doesn't do much for you. Some ppl have found that they become more regular and find that losing weight is easier after being on Met for an extended amount of time.

You should make a list of all of the symptoms that you have and put them in some sort of order.........like the more severe or most bothersome symptoms on the top down to the least bothersome and the symptoms that aren't as severe on the bottom. Take this list to your doctor and tell him that you want your treatment to be tailored around this list.

The problem as you know with PCOS is that there are SO many symptoms to battle and it really is best to take it step by step and figure out a plan that works best for you. Another thing that I want to suggest for you is to research PCOS to death! There is so much to learn. There are many useful websites and great books out there.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Hello everyone, I had my appointment with the endocriniolist sp? and he told me since I'm taking the highest dosage of metformin, he is putting me on spironotone sp?? and birth control which defeats my purpose of trying to conceive. However, I told him I can wait on pregnancy and just lose this weight first. I realized I have to take care of me first. So I will continue to keep you all posted and comment on other pages as much as I can. also I gain 15lbs which is not good. So now I'm really for better ways of eating and excercising. Thank you all for reading and commenting.
