View Full Version : Frightening foot and joint problems

Hey all,

I've been concerned about my knees for a long time, which was followed by my wrists. I experience pain and sometimes giving out in my wrists, and my joints crack and snap a lot. But what I'm really worried about is my feet, because I think I may have injured them at work sometime in the fall. One night at the end of my shift my feet felt like murder, then later for the next week I could barely move on them. It wasn't like normal aching from walking a lot or being on your feet all day...I don't know how to describe it, but it felt like the outer bone and joint parts of my feet weren't padded anymore, and standing or resting my feet on anything hard produced sharp pain.

It's months later now, and I haven't worked for some time, but my feet feel only somewhat better, the joints still hurt and having my feet rest or push against anything that isn't soft causes dull or sharp pain. I should have gone to a doctor sooner, but I didn't think I could afford to. I'm not worried about the money anymore, if there is any way I can get well I don't care how long it takes to pay the bills off. From looking on the internet, I think the kind of doctor I need to see is an orthopedic specialist, because that might be appropriate for my feet, but even though my feet are probably from an injury, it looks like some of the problems I'm having with them combined with my other joint issues may be consistent with symptoms of osteoarthritis, which I think an orthopedic doctor would also treat.

Am I correct? Is this who I should see? Does anyone have any experience with this or advice on what kind of doctor I need? I know this is long, and I appreciate anyone who has read it and can give me any advice. I'm 24 years old, and I already have trouble pulling myself up out of a chair and standing, and I'm worried this will permanently disable me if I don't take the right action now. Thank you for your help.

If a lot of your joints are affected, it sounds like an arthritic disorder. The foot pain sounds like arthritis rather than an injury. A rheumatologist is the doc you need. Whichever, you need to see someone. You need treatment for this.

Thank you very much. I'll definitely find a doctor and check back in with what I find in case it is helpful to anyone else.
