ive been with my boyfriend for 3 years. he has had a couple partners before me but he was my first. recently i found out i had herpes. i know i got it from him. he tells me he didnt no he had it and hasnt cheated on me. could it be that he barely gave me the virus or that i just got symptoms? or is he lying and had to have cheated on me and then gave it to me?

Hey, ConfusedNlost00 i am sorry to hear that. But i read some where that a person can have herpes and not even know it thy get no symptoms for years. You could have gotten it from some one in your past of your b/f could have gotten it from some one and pasted it on. I have had simular incident come up My b/f and i were together 2 1/2 years and he was feeling sick after a while he went to the clinic and they said he may have an std so he told me I was glad he told me but yeah i asked him a million times who he had been with and he said no one over and over. I knew i had not been with anyone. so i went and got checked out. a week later we came back alll clear. And his symptoms are gone. The dr said he may have had a bladder infection. I know this had nothing to do with your story but what im trying to say it think about ALL the facts try to come to him and tell him if he has it he needs to contact who he's been with. it seems as though being together 3 years you guys should be able to talk. I know you hear alot about men lie alllll the time. but wiegh alll the facts first before you destroy a great relationship. I hope this helps you

To answer your question, yes, it's possible he didn't know he had it. I got diagnosed with the big H about 9 years ago and the only reason why I knew I had it was because I ended up in the hospital with flu issues which turned out to be the big H, however my friend never knew she had it until her partner told her he had it so she went to get tested and she was positive. To this date, 2 years, she's never had an outbreak or anything. She just knows b/c of a bloodtest.
However, on my behalf, I have been on suppressive therapy for 9 years and it works or I'm just lucky. I have had a few boyfriends in the 9 years and never once has anyone gotten it from me. Suppressive therapy is something worth taking.
Hope this helps.
