Hey just a quick question I went of the pill in nov got BFP in Jan at 6weeks preg and lost baby in March so were back to square one. We aren't really technically trying right now but once in awhile we will have sex with no protection..not that often though. So the question is I'm really fair and usually I will start tanning in April at a salon so that by nice weather I've got some colour. I'm not sure if I should bother this year beacuse fingers crossed DH will be ready to start trying again mid may buuut on the other hand he told me he may want to wait until September. (we comprimised and said we'd talk about it in may because I wanted to start right after the mc.) Has anyone heard anything bad about the tanning booths? Obviously I would stop as soon as I found out I was pregnant I would NOT continue to tan but if I was tanning kinda every other day and then found out oh I'm 3weeks pregnant would that harm the baby?
Thanks for your input I"m blonde/redish hair and SO pale looks awful in shorts and bathing suits.

Hey demaggie -
I know you posted this a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't see it for some reason...I LOVE to tan, love to go to the beach etc. Tanning is bad for you and I know this, but have always liked being tan. As far as tanning and ttc, I stop all tanning once I know I have ovulated. From what I have read it is the increase in your body temperature from tanning that can cause harm to the baby. I don't even remember where I read that, but I know I've seen it somewhere. My DH hates that I tan anyway and has already told me that he doesn't want me to go back to it, even when a baby is born. He is usually not one to 'tell me what to do' so when he says something like that, I know he means business.

Sorry I don't have more info. Actually I think that I will quit tanning this month anyway. All the info/articles I keep reading are actually starting to scare me.

I actually called my Dr. and asked him. He said other than the fact that it's bad for me and I shouldn't be doing it anyway (which of course I knew) go ahead. He said that it doesn't cause any harm to the baby and that yes the only issue is temp rise but said the tanning beds don't raise your temperature that much. Stay hydrated don't stay in too long and be away of how hot your getting. But I also know I shouldn't really be tanning period as it's not any safer than sitting out in the sun all day. I actually won't tan being outside I have to start with the beds and build a base before I can get any colour

I was wondering about that myself.... I always tan, I know, I know, I'm going to look 60 when I'm 40, but the doc also told me that it wasn't a big deal to tan while prego.... I am just afraid of the looks I'll get when I go in and tan when I do get pregnant. I think I will use the self tanner when we do finally get prego, We are trying hard for a baby, and I wouldn't want anything to jeopardize it if it can be helped.

:) I know can you imagine the looks. I don't plan on tanning once I find out I am pregnant. I just wanted to make sure it was okay so can do it while TTC
