View Full Version : Back of throat - bump?

Here is an odd question. I have a lot of symptoms in my throat, tonsils, etc. area. Sometimes kind of a sensitive or irritated feeling at very top and back of my throat. If I reach my tongue back I can feel the uvula at the top but just behind this it feels like a hard bump. I cannot see anything in this area with a mirror and light that looks abnormal, however, if I stick my finger to the back of my pharnyx in this area, I feel I would describe as a bony area, like a piece of my spine bulging behind the throat membraine perhaps. I thought about adenoids but I think that is further up towards the nose.

Is this normal to have this "bump" in this area? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I likely would not have even noticed it, if I didn't feel irritation in this area.

Thanks

i had adenoids/tonsils out a few months ago, and beforehand, i assumed they were farther up. but after, i could feel less pressure right above my uvula/palate area. i never thought adenoids were causing the hurting.

I suppose the only way to really check the adenoids is with a scope or special mirror in the doc's office. I know they've looked through my nose, but I don't know if they would have checked the adenoids out. My tonsils are still quite prominent, with crypts. Inside these crypts are white pus at times, and even some very small white spots on the outside that come and go. Doctor isn't too concerned with them, saying this is normal though.

that souns like my. they ended up taking mine out in january, and i won't lie- it was the worst experience of my life-harder recovery thanchild birth(and my baby was 10lbs!!). anyway it stopped me from getting strep throat every other week. that's a plus, but i am still having pain and discomfort due to hyperplastic squamous mucosa . it is red and bumpy and scary.
