View Full Version : Question about timing

Hey there, I was just confused about when it was easiest to concieve. From what I heard, the best time is during the 'ovulatory phase' about 14 days before my next period. But I was wondering is it also possible to get pregnant immediately after my period? During the middle of my 'follicular phase'? Would this be completely fruitless or could there still be chance to concieve when not on the 'planned' ovulatory time?

Any help would be appreciated!

i guess it partly depends on how long your cycle lasts. if you had a 24 day cyle, and af lasted 7 days, then you would o on about day 10. also on how good them little swimmers are and of course, the quality of your cm has to be fertile cm of they wont survive at all!

Yes I see. I'm not quite sure how long my cycle is though. Until recently I was on bc, making me somewhat regular. I suppose that means I have a 26 or 28 day cycle? Then I would have to wait until day 12 or day 14 right? I'm rather impatient though, is it alright to try when it is not one of those days?? :)

Hi you ovulate about 14 days before your period is due so you would only ovulate on day 14 if you had a 28day cycle and you have a 14 day LP. However some people can have a slightly shorter or longer LP, it ranges from 10-16days!

For example if someone had a 40 day cycle and they had a 12 day LP the fertile time would be from cd27-29

With your cycle you should aim to have sex every other day till day 10, and from day 10-14 i would do it every day if possible!
As soon as your cm goes clear and stretchy i would do it as much as you can! lol it depends on your sex drive really lol

good luck :)

And anyway its best to have reguler sex all the way through your cycle to keep up a fresh supply of fast swimming sperm, if you waited till your fertile day chances are most of the sperm will be sluggish coz they will be old and tierd!

That s a good point due you think that sperm gets old and sluggish if it s been there a while?

That s what i tell DH but he thinks i am wrong he thinks the spermies will even be more concentrated and there s a higher chance of getting prego of you abstain for a couple of days.

I tried to do some research but haven t managed to get to a conclusion. Maybe Goldenmom can help us with this one... . . . .. . . . . .. Hope you re doing ok Goldenmom.

You should start charting and temping - chart your cm and temps. After a couple of cycles you will see a pattern. I did this and timed bd for the days leading up to ovulation. When your temp rises and stays up for 3 days you know you have ovulated the day before the temp rise. Aim for bd up to and including the day of and the day after ovulation.

I charted for a few months and noticed I didn't always ovulate on day 14 sometimes it was a couple days later on day 16. I was bd'ing before ovulation but I was successful when I used an ovulation predictor and it came back positive then bd that day and 2 days later which was the day of ovulation. 2 days before ovulation is supposed to be the jackpot but for me it was that and the day of ovulation that was.

If you are unsure of you cycles just bd every other day and you are bound to catch it!

AMY,

If it has been longer than 7 days then the sperm can be sluggish as they are old. If it has been a frew days then yes your husband is right they are more concentrated and chances are higher.

yeah i read it in a fertility book apparantly saving the sperm up does make them more consentrated but it also meens there will be more dead ones because they have been cramped up for so long in a confined space.

Picture 20 people trying to squeeze into a small car (abviously its impossible but just picture it) nobody can move and everyones crushing each other then when they all get out everyone has bad backs, brused limbs and feels starved of air! Now picture them poor sperm in your husbands balls lol it makes sence if you think of it like that! :)
