I would like to know that too. I was considering asking for some effexor tomorrow at the dr. but not sure about the heart palpitations and rapid heart rate some people have. What was your problem? Anyone else please?

Hi Ladies,
You might want to try posting to the depression board as well. I wish I could help both of you but I no clue. Good luck!

My doctor put me on Wellbutrin. It has helped out quite a bit and doesn't have as many side effects as the other antidepressants. I heard that alot of gyn use this med to ward off the PMS and menopausal symptoms.
I hope this helps ~ Goody:angel:

My sister takes lexapro and gabapentin. She has no menopausal symptoms although uses vaginal premarin. I have most of the symptoms but can take hrt. I also heard that fluoxetine (prozac) works well for hot flashes. Good luck and take care. I know it's the pits!

Hi:
I tried effexor very briefly. I had very bad side effects. My blood pressure and body temperature dropped extremely low and I ended up hospitalized. I went on Clonanzapam (Klonopin) after that and although it worked well, I couldn't stand the dozy feeling. It just left me so tired all the time. I slowly weaned myself off it and then started bioidentical hormones and have fared very well on that.

Thankyou all for your responses.I truly am amazed at how just coming to this board and being able to share problems have helped me.I have had an interesting turn of events recently and am interested if this has happened to anyone else,or is it coincidence?I have been very depressed off and on since just before Christmas,i did not have a period for 5 months until 2 days ago.Since i started my menstral cycle my depression seemed to lift immediately, how can this be?I feel better today than i have in months.Last week i was ready to throw in the towel and ask for anti-depressants,today i'm not sure what to do?Will i get depressed again when my period is over?Am i just thinking it is related to that?I surely don't know, but would love to hear from anyone elses experience!Sincerely and God Bless you all Lily

you might want to try prozac or celexa. also i have heard that zoloft is good. i am in my 8th year of peri and have had problems with anxiety for 3 years. i am on buspar for that. i also have low thyroid and recently had my meds changed and now i am depressed. i did fine on the buspar until last june when just before my period my anxiety increased. i didn't have a period since then until jan. about 10 days before that period my anxiety increased again. so it is possible that your depression could return. it seems like it is a long rollercoaster ride and frankly i would like to get off. God bless:angel:
