I sometimes hear a loud clanking noise inside my head just when I am about to fall asleep - sometimes it is a popping noise. I have had tinnitus for about a year, but this is different. I'm wondering if this is a hearing, brain or menopausal problem. I am very post menopausal. Anyone else experienced this problem?

I got this too just as I fall asleep sometimes. Sounds like someone hitting a metal pipe with a wrench to me. One time it sounded like a door bell. I have other hearing issues, no idea what this one is. Doesn't bother me much.

Yep, that happens to me also as I'm falling asleep some nights. It gives you a jolt, doesn't it!! Kind of reminds me of when you're half asleep and you have a muscle spasm. I don't know what causes it, though, but I also have tinnittus, so maybe that does have something to do with it.

Myrtle, I couldn't help but laugh about the metal pipe and wrench, but you are exactly right!! :D It is past my bedtime. That is when I, along with everything else starts getting silly. Other than having tinnittus, I also have a profound hearing loss in both ears and wear hearing aids. I'm also menopausal. Mine doesn't really bother me either. I guess there are some things that we just learn to live with.
