AA is a program of spirituaity and does not endorse any religion. The GOD that is spoken of is one of your own understandng, we call a Higher Power. If you are serious about staying sober then you should dismiss 2nd or 3rd party comments about religion and AA. I am not a religious person, do not attend church but have found that AA, the steps and spiritual principals behind the steps are the answer to my sobriety. There are many atheists who are in recovery and AA. Please consider all options and do not make up your mind without at least giving it a shot. If you are like me then you will be willing to try anything to stay sober. Good Luck! cleanandserene joang64 04-16-2007, 11:23 PM Ditto!!!! The difference between "religion" and "spirituality" ...is religion is something that is shoved down your throat........ and spirituality is something you ask for... AA is an awesome program... it has kept this alcoholic sober for going on 9 months... to some that may sound like nothing...but to me I am a miracle... the steps work...the comaradarie(sp?) works.... I don't need to know why........ I just know that I am happy, joyous and free for the first time in my life!!!!!!! Try it, you might like it. kadee 04-17-2007, 02:50 AM hello You are searching for a way to get pointed in the right direction, you say, and then you meet some people along the way who give you their religious opinions about a program, is that what made you feel uncomfortable? You need help with your drinking and cannot afford rehab. Do you have faith? We come to believe in something that will restore us back to sanity. That something is what we call a higher power, a lot of people call it different things, some people call it God, Jesus, Mary, Buddha, a Saint, some people call their higher power after their children, some people call it a shower nossle to keep clean, but all people who get better in AA have something in common and that is they share the same denominator, a higher power, we don't have to tell anyone who we have as a higher power, most people call it God, it certainly is not religious program at all. We don't want to argue or debate about it, we just want to heal. Just millions of people who want to stop drinking. climbing up the ladder rings of life without falling down. To trust that our higher power will keep the ladder steady for us as we climb higher. To keep going, without fear, to progress through life with opportunity instead of despair delusion or dt's. It's quite simple, no complications, only the obstacles you put in front of your circumstances bless you kadee |
