bothered 04-16-2007, 04:01 PM what is the difference between these two? Sponsor Sekluded 04-17-2007, 11:20 AM Quoted: "Dysthymia or dysthymic disorder is a form of the mood disorder of depression characterized by a lack of enjoyment/pleasure in life that continues for at least two years. It differs from clinical depression in the severity of the symptoms. Dysthymia can, though it does not always, prevent a person from functioning or affect sleep patterns and daily activities." "Cyclothymia is a chronic, but less extreme, form of bipolar disorder that consists of short periods of mild depression alternating with short periods of hypomania. The onset of each phase is separated by short periods of normal mood. This diagnosis is excluded if the patient has had either a manic episode or a major depressive episode." So basically Dysthymia is a mild form of depression, and Cyclothymia is borderline Bi-Polar disease. bothered 04-17-2007, 05:35 PM thank you so much for clearing that up for me! |
