In January, my PCP prescribed me Lexapro. Two days later I had a bad itchy rash and two weeks later the doctor confirmed I was allergic to it. After that I went to see a psychiatrist who prescribed me Prozac, 20mg once a day. After a month and a half she upped the dose to 40 mg. I was fine on that for 5 days and then I developed an even worse rash on my face. So bad that I felt hideous and hated to leave the house. I was almost in tears at work, but I had to go because I had pneumonia two weeks ago and last week my daughter was in the hospital for 4 days and I missed work.
I went to the ER Sunday night and they gave me Benadryl and some steroid and that took away the itchiness and the redness and rash are slowly disappearing. I called the psychiatrist Monday and they told me to stop taking the prozac completely and to come in next Tuesday and she will try me on a completely different type of medication. Could I be allergic to all SSRI's? What other types of antidepressants are there and do they also help with anxiety. I'm so nervous to try another medication because I don't want to go through this again. The hard part is that each time I've tried the SSRI's they do seem to help me feel better. I'm still taking .5mg of Xanax XR twice a day.
