Hi, I am 20 years old and about 4 months ago i had my first flare up of iritis. Definitely not fun!! The opthamologist called it a "rip roaring" case of iritis. They had me go to my family doctor to get some tests done but they did not find out what the cause was. The doctors thought and still do think that there's some underlying cause of it. Since then I have not had any more flare ups of that but I do get these painful muscle crampings in my toes. It feels like a charlie horse only in my toes and I am totally unable to move them without pain and it lasts maybe 15 minutes or so! When I try and stretch them out then they push against it and it hurts.. not sure what that could be? And along with those two things I get stomach cramps, normally under my left rib. Does anybody have any ideas on what these things could be caused from and do you think they are some how related to eachother?

Sincerely,
Tiff

My daughter had iritis when she was 31. It was treated, went away, came back a few months later. She hasn't had another bout in over two years. The doctor couldn't find an underlying cause and said some people get it for unknown reasons. It's possible to have one flare-up and never have another, so think positive. My daughter blamed stress, but of course there has to be a reason why stress would cause her body to attack her eyes in particular.
As far as your cramps go, it's hard to say. Cramps are common, but you're on the lookout for autoimmune diseases, so every little thing will be suspicious. There are theories that cramps are caused by a deficiency in the diet, magnesium perhaps. So, it wouldn't hurt to take a good multi-vitamin regularly. That's a simple, harmless treatment that might help. Apart from that, you'll just have to wait and see. You could read up on the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis but that would probably just make you think you've got it.

Good luck.
