Hey,
Want to know how you holding up on the sub. I'm doing pretty good! I'm down to 12 mg a day. Found that once I got over the first week or so my body tricked me into thinking I needed the 16mg or more! So I messed up and of course started abusing it! BAD...BAD!!
My doc was a bit dissapointed in me...but brought the dose down to 14mg and just started today on 12mg.
PLEASE post and let me know how your doing.
Also would love to hear from any of my fellow sub users!
Dee

Hi there!
I can't speak for toughtime except that I know her very well. She got upset by a certain person who was always bashing sub and she wound up getting kicked off. So, I don't want to get banned as well so I won't go into that.
Anyway, she started sub on April 2 on a dose of 16 mg. She's been on 12 mg and now she's trying to just be on 8. Yea, she kind of tried to abuse it too. Got a little rush. Had major dental work done and was in complete agony for a day and got some hydros. Asked the sub doc first if it would be ok to take while on sub. He said she should try not to but it wouldn't hurt anything and might help with pain. She just wanted help with pain not the high and it did seem to help. She did that for 2 days and that's it. Had a couple left and took them at once a few days ago to see if she would get a buzz and she threw up violently and just felt awful. But it's been almost a month and she is basically completely off the hydros. That's pretty darn awesome.
She thinks about getting off sub but knows she still has this big old monkey on her back with pain pills and at least the sub keeps that at bay. She functions normally. Well, the one thing that she hates about sub is constipation. She is more constipated then when she was on hydro which is a jip since you don't even feel a buzz on sub. Podee was wrong in another post when she said the naloxene (sp?) wears off within minutes of when you take the sub and only affects that suboxone you just took. It lasts in your system for 72 hours- that's why people don't have withdrawal symptoms until day 5, etc. The naloxene keeps you from getting any energy buzz or high off sub and or any other pain pills one might take. All they do is make you sick.
Debbie misses all of you a lot. She had a lot of horribly ugly back and forths with the moderator and felt like she would never be welcome back. Well, that's true, she isn't. But she said I could let everyone know how she's doing.
Luv u guys! Miss u.
Deb

Hello 2nd chance
Glad to hear of the awesome progress you have made. never been on sub, but certainly accept it as a way off narcotics.
2nd, life is one heck of a learning experience, isn't it? My own journey is teaching me daily. One of the harder things I have had to learn is to let go of anger, embarrassment and disappoinment. It is not an easy thing to do, but the energy we waste on these things is neither helpful nor healthy. Not a lecture, just sharing my own personal experiences, okay? Smiles.
The constipation thing? Yes, I am sure that can be a problem. I had the worst problem with constipation when I was on chemo years ago. Doctor has me taking Walgreen's Senna-S. And a nurse in the hospital had me eating black licorice. Sure did the trick for me. Maybe you can try these things.
I also learned some hard lessons on using the board appropriately. In the end, I had to accept that I had been wrong. I went back and read every single rule carefully so I would not break any again. Part of my new effort to be obsessive-persistent rather than obsessive-compulsive. Chuckles.
Please have a GOOD day and know how much the board and everyone connected with it loves you. Take from each post what is good and healthy for you and ignore the rest. One of the most important features of this board is an IGNORE button that can be utilized to shut out posts from our view when we do not care to read about a particular poster. Search for this feature and utilize it if needed.
With big hugs and hope always

Hi Reach,
Thanks so much for the sweet email. How are you? Are you still doing your xanax taper or are you off of them now? My doc gave me a script for xanax and remembering your story as well as others on what a nightmare it is has kept me from really taking them. If you're tapering what's your dose now?
Yea I guess you're right. I've been on here for so many years that after the recent episode I took a big break. Pride I guess. :-)
Thanks for the kudos on the sub. It is progress. I have to remind myself of that. I still have the nagging voice in my head (same message as certain posters) reminding me that it's still an opiate so I'm not completely off drugs. But the doc said I could take it for years if needed. I have pain problems still so it alleviates that a bit I think. That and a lot of advil. At least I'm not obsessing and taking enough tylenol to ruin my liver. Not to mention spending hundreds of dollars each month, and the mood swings. Sub does make you feel normal. I now drink red bulls looking for that energy rush that I used to get. Miss that. That's about it though.
Did you ever hear from Amithyst? Or Arg49 mom that also started sub before Debbie did? ;-) Is Kiam still around?
Have a good Sunday. It looks like a beautiful day here, hope yours is nice as well.
Debbie

12mg is a massive dose of suboxone. I wish you the best in getting off and I know you can do it.

The naloxone component in suboxone does not produce a clinically significant effect when administered using an oral or buccal route. However, intravenous administration can produce withdrawal symptoms in opioid dependent patients. As I wrote elsewhere, Naloxone has been added to the Suboxone formulation to reduce the risk of buprenorphine abuse and diversion. That's it.
72 hours - you are thinking of an entirely different substance - naltrexone. Even a straight injection of naloxone is used only to counter an overdose. In those situations, Naloxone is injected, usually initially intravenously for fastest action. The drug acts after about two minutes, and its effects may last about 45 minutes.
Naloxone has a short half life - 43 - 90 mins. Naltrexone - its metabolite has a half life of 13 hours.
I'd LOVE to give those sub users a tab of Naltrexone. This is used in rapid detox. They'd get clean with a quickness, and no need for any taper either.
