hI,
Ive been experiencing a pain in the following regions since the last 4 months:
<This pain only occurs in the RIGHT HAND>
1> Palms
2> Ring and Middle fingers
3> Forearm
4> Biceps
The pain which i experience occurs in either 1> or 2> or 3> or 4>
but not all 4 at the same time.
I tried PHYSIO, went to a ORTHO, etc..
The pain went for a week then came back.
The following are my work habits:
Computer Engineer..using the computer for over 14 hours a day.
Ive no injury as such.
Also the pain is generally not in the mornings...
it comes by noon and extends till night before I sleep
What could be the cause?
Thanks and Good Wishes

RfG,
Could very well be cts. First of all you sleep all night resting your hands and arms. Then you wake up and start doing the repetitive motions that are causing your cts. Carpal tunnel involves the median nerve. The median nerve serves only the thumb, pointer, the middle finger and a small portion of the ring finger. When my cts was at it's worst, I had pain in the back of my hand, the palm, forarm and inside elbow. All of this was on the thumb side, not the pinkie side. Yours may not be bad enough to be tested yet. I had cts for 5 years, I was on Naporsyn and just before surgery if I held my arm straight up in the air, within 3 seconds I was in pain, esp. in my fingers. How old are you? Do you have small wrists compared to other people your size? Do you have any relatives in your extended family that have cts? Please let us know and we'll give you more advice based on your answers. ONe thing is for certain, 14 hours a day of computer use is enough to bring on cts. Try putting a towel rolled up under your wrist when you use your mouse online.

I wish to add more..
I get pain <sometimes throbbing> in the follwing regions:
Little finger,Ring finger, and middle finger only.
I dont get pain the in the thumb and index finger.
Also no pain in the wrist,
The major part of the pain occurs on the palm, the backside of hand directly opposite the palm, forearm,
Sometimes the pain occurs in the bisceps too,
While sleeping no pain, also in the mornings no pain
There has been history of anyone in my family having this pain.
I am 23 years old, the pain has occured ever since ive started work.
How can I check whether I have CTS?
Which type of doctor should i visit? ORTHO or NEURO?
Also i dont get any pain when I raise my hand in the air <vertical postion>
However when I stretch out my right arm, I experience pain from the forearm to the palm region <pulling pain of nerves>
Please assist me..
good wishes

Hi Ray,
I first got cts in 1994, and probably still have it somewhat, but do exercises, etc to keep it under control. I never had surgery as my Dr said I wasn't a good candidate at the time. I was told when first diagnosed that the pinkie finger does not hurt with cts, and holding your arm up in the air is a test I was given, and yes, it did hurt.
I did go to hand therapy, which was useful at the time, and learned exercises to do, which I still do. Being on a computer is not good unless the wrist is supported and excercises are done periodically.
I'm not in the medical profession, but IMO, it doesn't sound like you have cts...
Hope you feel better soon.
