The steroids are a weeks worth and the first day is 6 pills second five and then 4 then 3 and etc.... until the round is done I am taking a lil less now as I was getting sick on them. The dizziness is at bay for now but she had told me we would do the steroids as she hoped it would dry up the remaining fluid in my ears and I was thinking if that happens and the ENT said my ears looked fine maybe (just reaching here) I might get better? If we clear up the inflammation and fluid and he didn't see any sign of damage maybe I will be better by 8 weeks???Any one think so???? As for the valium i am on 2mg 2 times a days but cut it back to 1mg 2 times a day as i was getting so drowsy but may just take 1mg once a day that wouldnt be too bad right??

take the medrol pack properly--
6-5-4-3-2-1 Its not so hard... And the r eason why it is done that way is because you have to taper the dose down, you cannot abruptly stop and you cannot just take what you feel like.... Take it with food, never on an empty stomach.
Steroids -- They arent necessarily proven, but by reducing the inflammation properly, the fluid (effusion) in the middle ear will drain through the eustacion tubes.... Once the fluid drains, you should start feeling better. If you have clogging in your ear, that is a sign that inflammation and or fluid still exist. Try the val-salva method to re-adjust the pressure and help drain the ear. Try some decongestants..... In cases, it can take months for the fluid to completely dry up, and the fluid may or may not always be visible to thge ENT looking in your ears.. You are probably a better hudge that something is wrong rather than him lookin in your ears.

My doc had told me to cut back a lil on them take 4 then 4 then 3 etc as my stomache is so upset and i am throwing them up. DO you think it mght work though??? and not sure what you mean by this : You are probably a better hudge that something is wrong rather than him lookin in your ears. Do you think I am wasting my time though? And I definatly should finish the pack all the way through right??

Finish the pack.. "hudge" was a typo -- "JUDGE" was what I meant.... Either way, finish the course, it will help....
Think of it like this.. when you have effusion/infection, there is swelling in your tube that connects your ear to your throat. This tube is really narrow, so when you get sick, and the pressure in the ear is negative, it sucks fluid from the surrounding tissue and fills p that tube. This fluid can be thick or thin.. but it blocks your ear.... This is where you get ear fullness or muffled hearing... Now when you take the steroids, if there is any remaining inflammation in the tibe, it will decrease that swelling allowing it to open more, and when the pressure gets a little back to normal, it will drain.. (SLOWLY), but it will drain..... that I believe is your first step.. get rid of the effusion in your middle ear. So steroids will help.. If you are throwing up, maybe your not tolerating, but it does take some time for the steroids to work.........

Thank you. Yeah the first day (yesterday) i was supposed to take 6 instead I threw up the last two. So instead of taking 5 today she told me to take four and then three (i think tomorrow) instead of four then three the next day then 2 after that then the one as I couldn't take more today than I did yesterday. I feel almost normal on them (I know that is probably decieving) except for the nausea and feeling so "out of it" even on 1mg of valium 2X a day think I will take 1 mg once a day just to take edge of panic away but leave me functionable since I am just adjusting now to taking care of the kids since the start of this thing (husband has had no work for 5 weeks). I am supposed to take 2mg 2x a day but it is just too much would rather have dizzy than spacey. DO you think it is just deceiveing me feeling better and when the steroids are done I will feel like crap again?? In 2 weeks will be the 8 week mark so just wondering my chances lol. Going to go before I stress myself farther but i am proud I got out today and did stuff for the first time in a long time. Felt yucky and tired sometimes but I did it!

Any other people have any opinions?? Just wondering if I am feeling better just because of the steroids and it is going to come rushing back or may this treatment have a good chance of helping me get better???

Hey dizzy,
maybe you are also feeling better because you are more relaxed and not so anxious all the time. Anxiety can do funny things to you. You sound more positive, by going out and getting on with things.Dont let this illness run you down.Keep thinking positive....not IF i get better.WHEN i get better is the answer.Keep getting out and about, you will be surprised how better you feel.
x :) :) :) :) :)

I had steriods and I think they helped but I used the entire pack as directed. Anyway, did your doctor give you antivert or anything to combat nausea so you can keep the pills down? Phenergan is another wonderful drug for nausea, the only thing that worked for me. Did you doctor say 8 weeks...I don't know what you were diagnosed with but I was told 12 minimum and that seems to be true in my case.
