Sponsor candyheart 04-20-2007, 02:36 AM Drinking way tooooo much alcohol will cause blackouts. Anyone experiencing blackouts because of alcohol abuse needs to get some form of help. Dantheinsane 04-20-2007, 05:44 PM I used to drink way to much every night yet I wouldn't have a blackout every night. I found over a period of time that if I started to do anything embarssing, stupid, clownish, foolish, I would have a blackout. I don't think this is a norm though and the norm is just over drinking. feelbad 04-21-2007, 01:18 PM In the quick readers digest version of what actually takes place when you drink alcohol, espescially to excess to the point of blackouts,is basically this. alcohol IS an anesthetic,it just is a form of something that actually puts part of your brain to sleep.this happens for the most part in the cerebellum, this is what controls your gait?the way you walk?the more you drink, the worse you walk right?sooo, when you have drink enough to put certain areas to sleep, well they don't have those memories since the part of your brain that would remeber them is also asleep at the time.its alot more in depth than that but do you understand the basics? this is also why you can suffer an alcohol overdose.anytime you drink more than the body can safely metabolize, the body becomes overwhelmed with too much of that anesthetic that is putting things to sleep inside your brain to the point where it actually affects your respiratory drive that lies within the brainstem, its very basic functions also get 'put to sleep" and you die. just imagine that everytime you get drunk, you are running around with part of your brain actually going to sleep to a certain extent?this also affects your cognative functions where the executive thinking process is taking place.this is your regulator of your basic behavior where choices are being made.this can have a huge impact on you and the things you choose to do while drunk.like drive a car.in your 'normal' state, you wouldn't think of even doing that but when your brain is half asleep, you would do just about anything since that 'morality regulator' in your brain is actually sleeping on the job.scarey to really think about this ya know?we have all done things while drunk or drinking that we wake up the next day going,"why in the hell did i actually do that?"thats what happens when your brain is asleep at the wheel, thats all.it just really really clouds your normal judgement.something to think about ya know?does that help?marcia Podee 04-21-2007, 04:15 PM People who get to the point of having blackouts are alcoholics. For example, they say that a person who has one DUI is probably an alcoholic, and two DUIs is an alcoholic. I know many would argue with this, but this is what the statistics show. What amazes me is people with three or more DUIs who keep drinking. Think about how many times a person who gets one DUI drinks and drives before being caught? Also, how powerless the person is over alcohol that he cannot even manage to stay out from behind the wheel after drinking. desmaggie 04-24-2007, 12:02 PM Thanks for the info Dantheinsane 04-24-2007, 09:06 PM If you start to get blackouts while driving you are now bordering on deep doodoo. Especially if you ever get arrested, you will be more lost than ever. |
