View Full Version : Red eye rims.

Ok, so here's the deal. I've had red eye rims for as long as I can remember.
It's never really bothered me, since I'm not usually the type to obsess over how I look, and there is no pain or irritating symptoms.

Recently however, a lot of people have been asking me about it and for some reason the constant questions are hitting harder than they used to. It's getting quite depressing.

A couple of recent examples:

I walked into the stockroom at work and there was a new girl working there, and she looked at me and instantly said "what's wrong with your eyes?".
For some reason that really bugged me. I laughed it off at the time, but I can't get it out of my head now.

By far the worst incident though was when our security guard asked me if I take drugs, because my eyes are always red. I told him no, but I get the feeling he didn't believe me. I'm not an emotional person, but that upset me.
For the record, I honestly don't take drugs. I've never touched any kind. I don't even smoke cigarettes.

Today I was avoiding looking people in the eye, because if I looked them in the eye, it meant they were looking me in the eye.
I've never been like that before.

But I digress.

Does anybody know what it could be?

To sum it up:

I've had red eyes for as long as I remember.
My eyeballs are perfectly normal, it's the eyelids and area around the eye that is red.
There is no soreness, irritation or other symptoms.

My boss used to always ask me if there was something wrong because the red rims (and, in my case, the whites too) made it look like I was crying.
I use Refresh Plus eye drops in the little single-use ampules that don't have any preservatives. They help with dryness, which contributes to the redness.
I also used eyelid "scrubs" for awhile that the opthalmologist recommended.
But now I just run a clean fingertip over the rims in the shower with water sort of coming down on them.
