caldoit,
All the gyms that I ever joined had staff who wrote out a program for me based on my goals and current fitness level. Then, periodically, they would give me a new routine. Aren't there any qualified staff at your gym? Or do they just let you join (and take your money) and you're on your own?

You might check out the Body for Life book. It's a very good, well rounded beginner's program that addresses strength training, cardio and diet. It really is a great way to get into a healthier lifestyle and gives you a good foundation of information to work with for the rest of your life. Having someone build you a personalized program is great, but educating yourself is even better. :)

$1500 That's just crazy! They are at least 10 trainers at all times at my gym that help you when you sign up. They help everyone with out any additonal fees. [removed]
Good Luck !
