Hi I am new and joined this group to see if anyone is going through what I am going through. I have only a basic understanding of MS and was told this past friday that my doctor feels I may have it. I have an MRI on my brain scheduled for monday. I was kind of shocked to learn that most docs don't jump to testing you for it when mine seemed to have. A little background on me. I have 3 kids and have been dx with many issues over the past couple of years. I have degenerative disc disease in my L4-L5 discs in my back, bladder problems (like not being able to make it to the bathroom in time), ulcerative colitis, loss of short term memory, concentration problems and most recently I have a real problem getting words out when I talk or starting a sentance and forgetting what I am trying to say. I also just last week started having weakness in my right hand and problems griping things heavier than a cordless phone. When I went to the doc friday about my hand he mentioned that given my history and the fact I am only 24 and have all these problems that I probably have MS. I don't really know whats going to happen next or how fast this can progress. I have spent so much of my time dealing with my 4 year old boy who is autistic and has seizures that I don't think about anything that could go wrong with me. If anyone is going through this stage or can offer some advice or knowledge I would appreciate it.

Thank you

I've had MS for 8 years and have found that with my doctors' help can adjust pretty redily to whatever MS throws at me. My kids are grown so my problem is different from yours. With multiple health problems it can be hard to identify what is causing which. Getting ny diabetis under control has helped. My recent MRI showed a problem with disk c3-4, which, when corrected ,releived some of my symptons. My bladder problems became bad enough that I now have a suprapubic catheter. I'm very glad I got it.
Good luck!

Hi my autisicangel! My heart goes out to you. I may not be the best person to comment but here goes. First let me say that I am a boy and do not pretend that to understand mothers and all that they face, when presented with a disabled child. I found that from that point on life was something that would unfold, rather than be planned out. I have a 5 year old daughter with Spina bifida. She is wonderful and one of the brightest spots in my life. I also have an able bodied/healthy 17 month old. To digress... I did not know how much work able bodies kids are! We had to babyproof everything. You don't need to do that when you have a child that does not climb and run and get into everything.LOL What I am trying to say is that plans change, life is fluid and living. Whatever your dx may be at least you will have some answers to things that have been bothering you like the going to the bathroom. Other things will be explained as your dx unfolds.

I know it is hard to be patient, but the good thing is you have started your journey to finding out what is going on. It sounds like you know your way aroud the docs, which is good. You learn alot about how to be in the medical system when you have a child that requires being in the system. You have learned alot, believe it.

I am sorry to hear about all the stuff that you are up against. Me and my wife laugh and say we at least don't have to wait for the other shoe to drop.LOL At a certain point you stop saying what else, and start saying bring it on. I hope you are similar. I know right now that things are so hard to deal with. they were for me. I can feel all the things that you are probably feeling right now because I went through. And I'm still here.

I am trying to let you know you have alot of shoulders here. I think we have alot in common...special needs kids. I really know how that can be scary because you think of your kids first.Hang in there. I will remember you in my prayers.

angel, I'm with you -- learned much more about this myself in just the past week! There seem to be SO many different possible symptoms. Good luck and please keep us posted.

nan, you mentioned a problem with c3-c4 and a correction. Was that by chance corrected by a chiropractor?? I have to say, my back's been "out" for a seriously long time but since my dx I'm fearful to ever go to a chiropractor again, at least one that does adjustments by manipulation.

I can relate to you with the memory problems. I forget from one room to the next. Sometime midsentance I'm not a mom but I am a dad My wife and I have a 10 year old girl and raising our great nephew (1 year) My wife has degenarative disk as well. And I have MS. those kids can wear you out quick. Good luck with that MRI

Thank you for those of you that commented so far. I really appreciate the support. I had it done today and have been fighting with left eye pain since yesterday. It was throbbing the whole time I was laying in the MRI machine. Got to go to the eye doctor about it now. Sometimes I feel like I live in the doctors office. Thanks again and will keep you updated!!
