Hi all. I am a 51 year very active female runner with my period stopping two months ago and hot flashes started immediately. I am currently taking gabapentin and at 900 mg did not seem to help that much. I was still having 7-8 hot flashes a day and night sweats all the time. I am have now increased to 1800 mg and will see how that goes. I have read that you need 2400 mg to equal the effect of estrogen. I had breast cancer 10 years ago with receptor positive and my doctor does not recommend any hormone treatments for fear of a recurrence. Would appreciate hearing from anyone. Thanks.

Hi:
I'm not taking it although it was one of the two options offered to me. I can't take estrogen due to blood clots and I was offered the option of the gabapentin or natural progesterone cream. I decided to try the natural progesterone cream first and it's working so well that I've never gotten around to the gabapentin. I'll be interested to see how it works as you up the dosage.

Hi there!
I was just put on that medication. I couldn't take the higher dosage because it caused me to faint. However, I do find that the 3 pills a day seems to lessen the severity of menopausal symptoms. I'm thrilled to hear that someone else has been using it as well. I wasn't so certain about it at first but also can't take HRT because my mom had breast cancer and thus I am high risk.
