 Hi everyone,This is Jaylynn5,had the ALIF wed,and they replaced a blown disc below the L4*L5 fusion.I have about 40 staples, which are to come out in 10 days,I'm sore and stiff, but I can get up by myself and get into bed alone, and that helps.Had a bad day yesterday, but just tried to walk some in the morning and relaxed in the afternoon. They said the had lots of troulble with my lungs, said they were so filled with phelm,Doc got on to me about that.Still very weak but I am on my way and so glad its over.:blob_fire Hope all are doing ok and take care, thanks for your prayers .Talk to you soon.Jaylynn5:wave:

I am so glad you are on your way to recovery. Getting in an out of bed myself was my high point after gettting home from the hospital.
Remember we are all here for you as you go thru this recovery. Take it easy and rest. Don't push yourself I know it only delays the process.
Sorry you had some problems with your lungs glad the surgery went ok.
I will have you in my prayers Hugs your way

Welcome back!! I am sure you are so glad that the surgery is over. Now you can sit back and start the recovery process. Just remember to take baby steps and no bending, lifting, or twisting.
Good luck on your recovery and remember that we are here for you.

Wow, Jaylynn, you're only 5 days out! You sound great! Keep it up, girl! Don't forget to keep up the pain meds for now, even if you don't feel like you need them all the time. Rest and walk, you know the drill. I'm glad you're able to get in and out of bed by yourself. That makes a huge difference!
Remember that your job right now is to give yourself the best recovery you can. No washing dishes, no straightening up. If you have a laptop, this is a great place to hang out while you're off your feet. If you have questions about what's "normal" and what's not during your recovery, ask away. Lots of folks here can help you.
Blessings,
Emily

Hey guys!Yes its day 5,I have rested all day!Yes this is my second surgery, had a fusion in 2002,did fine, even riding horses.I got hit in a car accident in August of 06,did the chrio,22 visits, thinking that they could streched, me then was sent to Doctor who does just spine and neck,he sent me to PT,I could not stand the pain.then MRI and CT scans, showed blown disc below the fusion and the fusion itself was all cracked and hardly anything was there,so he cleaned and repaired fusion and took the other disc out and replace it with metal cage, going through the stomach this time, and I can tell this was a much better surgery.Besides looking like I am 10 months along, things are much better.I tried to help making a cake last night and I could tell I did too much,so today I did nothing,I did take a shower by myself when hubby came home,he babysits two little ones,(grandkids) he is disabled with his knees, which he needs both replace, trying to hold on till he reaches 50,so he helps my oldest and his wife ,they were paying740.00 and month is babysitting, this helps himi too, gives him somehing to do,he watches the 3yr old and the little girl who is 4 months, hes a good PawPaw,even takes them to the doctor if needed, sometimes I dont think they know how good they have it.and he helps me walk when he gets home, well enough of me,I do think this ALIF is so ....................much better than through the back.take care all and I will keep you all in my prayers. It would be nice to have a chat room,it would be nice to chat with all of you.take care--see you soon.jaylynn5

Hi Jaylynn5,
I will be 4 weeks out of my ALIF fusion of L4/5 and 5/S1 tomorrow. Sounds like you are doing well. I'm getting much better, sitting is still not very comfortable. I beginning to get tired of this but have to hang in there. Week 2 was the worst for me and 3 and 4 keep getting better. I tire easily. Take care, keep pain under control and remember the rules, no bending, twisting or lifting. Thinking of you,

Your son and his wife are so lucky to have your hubby as a caretaker for the children. In this day and age it is difficult to find good help that you can trust and rely on.
Wow!! I couldn't have even thought about making a cake at Day 5. You go super woman!! I am so happy that you are doing so well. Take care!!
