I've read through these threads and see many of you get nausea. I can't believe it didnt occur to me ( or my DR) that this is a sign of perimenopause ( I'm 45). It started a year and a half ago, felt like I had the flu... and I had experienced similar bouts of nausea AFTER I had the flu, so I didnt think anything, figured it would go away. Well, it hasnt, I've been tested for ulcers, IBS, etc, with no results. Still wonder about giardia but no bowel symptoms, just the uneasy stomach.
It doesnt matter what I eat, I feel bloated and full almost immediately, feels like its just sitting there, and growling/gassy noises and gas that frightens my cats and has made me wary of eating in public. The ONLY thing that works is taking a little ATIVAN before I eat-- happened on this remedy by accident while flying. I dont know why it works, does anyone have any ideas? My DR wants me to have all these gastric tests but I don't want them as have no pain or other symptoms--I'm not big on Western medicine. Apple cider vinegar can calm down and help digest, too.
Since I have to be on the Pill for fibroid/cyst combo, is there anyone else who has pretty constant nausea and gas for this long, and what do you do???

Dear Laphoto,i too suffer from nausea on occasion for days at a time.I take 2 Gravol "Ginger tablets" upon rising in the morning and it helps(they are natural product). If the day goes on and nausea still there i will take a regular 50mg. tablet of Gravol(i don't like how they make me tired, but can't stand feeling nauseated, had enough of that during pregnancies)I'm sorry, but i did laugh about scaring the cat!best of luck and God Bless Sincerely lily

Hi, I just found these boards and am having similar stuff - bloating, gas and gained 3.5 lbs this weekend!! Eeek! Plus I realized that my headaches (just went to a Headache clinic last week for daily episodes last two + months) are probably another symptom. Feeling a bit grouchy these days.
I don't know that drug you mentioned - ATIVAN, but am interested. Seeing my GYN on Thurs for an annual exam, so I'm taking my long list of complaints. If he can't help, I'll see my female Dr. at work. I'm suddenly feeling sorry that I have a man Dr. - it's not his fault he can't relate, but it is so frustrating when they look at you like you are certainly from another planet!
Sorry I'm not offering any help, but I promise to come back and post if I find any good remedies.
Waking up in the early am's is a bummer too.

I wish you luck!

I've found that eating candied ginger really helps as well. I think the nausea comes due to the fluctuation in hormones. I find that it comes and goes with me.

I have had off and on nausea for years. The only way to describe it was that I felt the same way I did when I was pregnant. I was sick to my stomach, but needed to eat. I would eat, feel better for a little while, then the nausea would come bac,. I went thru every test under the sun and still my doctors can not/will not attribute it to perimenopause. I wasn't thrilled about having all the tests done, but it did wonders for my peace of mind. I found this on another board and it has really helped for me:

ginger zingiber officianale (500mg) - one caplet 3 times a day, starting with first thing in the morning
Licorice root extract (DGL) chewable tablets (it is vital to get DGL as regular licorice can raise blood pressure) - Chew 1 tablet twice a day. These taste pretty bad, but chase them with water and you should be okay.

Both of these have helped me SO much!

Hang in there. If not for these boards, I think I would have been in a mental ward by now!

thank you for the ginger advice--will try that--don't know if I can take the licorice as I HATE licorice, LOL, why doesnt chocolate work?
My nausea is pretty constant if I eat-- its fine if I don't. I've never been pregnant, but isnt it worse on an empty stomach? And as awful as the nausea is; the bloat and cat-scaring gas are publically more troublesome. Does ginger help with the gas??
Man, like being 45 isnt whacky enough, now the body starts to defect internally as well as externally ( wrinkles, etc).SIGH.
It's nice ( you know what I mean) to hear other people are suffering along with me;) there is strength in numbers!;)
Emkay: Ativan is anti anxiety med; I took it for flying and discovered a little bit of a tablet helps the nausea and bloat when I eat. It seems alot of peri has anxiety in there somewhere so you could prolly get Ativan for that-- it's not for technically for stomach probs but my friend went through chemo and it totally helped her with nausea from that, so obviously it has stomach settling qualities.
