Well.. in the past I have gone to Oregon( my home state) to visit friends and visit the Oregon coast..but this year it is more scary to travel alone because last fall I was hospitalized. But I cant stop living. and I have my ;meds and back-up( Zyprexa) so will have 3 meds with me..

I am proud of myself. for doing this step. by traveling alone( I am a widow )

I am going to buy a cell phone, that will be nice to commuicate in case something happens...

I have peace and feel not high nor low...

Does any one else travel and worry about their BP flaring up...while away from home? I will have internet access while away.:D

Hi. I just started meds maybe a month and a half ago. I worry alot about travelling. my mom asked if i wanted to go on vacation with her and some friends, but i know that new locations sometimes make it worse. Besides her friends made me crazy when the BP was under control, I have no idea what would happen if i went now. I hope i'll eventually feel peaceful like you do. I love travelling but with these swings i have to watch myself driving to college the next town over. I am really happy that you can go and hope you have lots of fun.

Hi CarenR, first I want to say that I'm sorry for you loss. From what you posted I would say that you are a very strong person and should have no problem traveling. I'm like you in the fact that I won't let BP dictate my life. We have to take control of it and not let it ruin out life. I love to travel, I take at least 2 major vacations a year and several weekend trips. I have never had a problem with bipolar flare ups during a trip. I might go a little hypomanic sometimes, but never overboard. Sometimes I do get depressed when I'm back home, but that was mostly before I was medicated. Kudos for your bravery and courage. Hope you have a happy and safe trip! Tom

Towns and cities have doctors offices and hospitals so I wouldn't worry. But it might help you to join AAA and have them map it out for you. Also make a list of doctors offices and hospitals if you need them.

Tune, change oil and radiator fluid, and check the brakes before you go. Do this a couple of weeks before you go so you can drive the car around a while in case of leaks and mechanic screwups.

thanks,, but I am flying there and renting a car.. actualy I lived at the Oregon coast for 4 yrs. and married. there. so I am very much..not alone.. I have lots of friends to vist the second week. as I will be there 2 weeks.... but the cell phone makes me feel more in control and I never rent a red car as I am blonde and those two attract too much attention. haha
