this may seem like an odd question, but I am starting a new job and have to go through a drug screen. Will risperdal show up? Does anyone know? I know some of these drugs can show up under certain circumstances. Dont reall want to tell a new employer Im on antipshycotics if I dont have to.

An extensive urine anaylsis covers barbiturates, benzos, cannabinoids, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and phencyclidine. The lab will ask you what prescrption meds you are on.

Depends what they are actually screening for... lab analysis, generally HPLC, will pull up anything that is in your system, however, prescription drugs are considered 'confidential' to you - your employer has no right to this information. They should only be told of illegal substances by the lab that carries out the analysis.

I agree. My mother-in-law is a health care professional, and she told my husband that legally (at least in the U.S.) potential employers cannot ask anything about medical conditions/psychological conditions. My husband was honest with an employer about being bipolar, and suddenly he wasn't on the schedule anymore. They didn't fire him, so we couldn't sue, they simply stopped scheduling him to work. They won't check for anticonvulsants or antipsychotics in a simple drug screening. They're looking for THC (pot) and opiates (so stay away form poppy-seed muffins on the day!). Remember, your mental health is none of their business unless it effects your work performance (and even then, I wouldn't mention it). It's sad but true, people are horribly narrow-minded when it comes to conditions of the mind.

Good luck!

Every drug screen I have gone through gives you a questionaire first. On the paper there is a question in which they ask you what meds you are on. That is where you put down your medications. A doctor may interview you at the end like with me, but that is fine.
