hey guys i'm suppose to go get tested for hep B this weekend. Does it matter if i just got my second shot of vaccine last month? will that effect the test results to see if i have the disease or not? i know that i may have the antibodies from the vaccine but will they be able to detect if i have it also? reason why im getting tested is because i had safe sex a few times with my gf for the first time a few weeks after my second shot and shes hep B positive.

i am worried about the same thing....i just got my hepatitis panel results and it said i was positive for hep b and c. I also have been vaccinated from hep b 4 yrs ago. so i would think that means i would have antibodies from the vaccine, right?

Regimen of 3 shots, month 1, 2, 6. First two shots for efficacy, last shot for memory cells. Efficacy rate of first shot around 65%, 2nd shot jumps up to 90%++. Booster recommended after 10 yrs.
If you got vaccinated 4 yrs back and it took (meaning you're in 90%++ group that it worked for), you can't contract Hep B. What might happen is your titre levels for hep b antibodies are very very low but as soon as you come into 'contact' with virus, antibodies kick in to protect you against getting hep b infection.
Check for antibodies - you can be HsB antigen positve but also have antibodies, then you're safe :)
The above is the theory. Can't help with hep C.
