I just can't believe this...it's my 5th time trying to go back on Topamax and my 5th time going off of it!

I take it for headaches, but everytime I do, I become depressed! It's sooo
frustrating.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm posting on the depression board too.

Thanks,

Salty

Yes Topamax knocked me around horribly. It didn't make me depressed but extremely anxious and skin crawling sensation. It also gave me a type of aphasia, where the wrong words would come out of my mouth (and wrong words when I was typing at work!) - nasty stuff. I say stay clear.

Have you exhausted all other (more common) medication options for migraine? I found, after trying all the latest stuff, that one of the oldest medications helped reduce the frequency of my headaches - it's called sandomigran. I've heard of people having great results from just 1 tablet a night. I currently take 6 tablets per night (!), but lucky I get no side effects from it.

Not sure if I should tell you this but........

I started having self harming thoughts - that was the most scary experience of my life. Came off it at once and changed to amitryptaline.

Never going to look back again - it's been wonderful.

I can't tell all of you how thankful I am that you wrote. I'm really low right now--only turned the computer on because I heard that 95% of our seratonin comes from our INTESTINES!

I haven't been able to "digest" that one yet...25 years of drs. and thinking I know a little medical stuff and now that?! Unbelievable. I'm still stunned and don't know what to do about it. I know I'm depleted in seratonin.

I guess I will post on the depression board and maybe one more to find out what if anything I can do to help me get back. I've been there many times, but I'm still scared.

I don't know how long it takes for the Topamax to get out of my system (I would have thought it would be gone by now)!

And my standard med. that always works isn't pulling me back.

Thank you so much for the suggestions of other meds I can try. I really appreciate it and and know now that if I don't try a natural remedy first that I will be going to my dr. with your other suggestions. I have to be able to leave the house first.

italiaprincess, I have taken fish oil for the longest time and don't notice ANYTHING! What am I doing wrong?

Salty

I will they are ordering it for me. Look it up online, their are some interesting facts about it. Also my great psych is making me take Omega 3 fish oil, because it has natural mood boosting affects in it. I take one that he sells that has rosemary and olive oil in it so I dont get "fish burp". I dont know if it has been the up in Effexor or the Omega 3's but I have been feeling alot better, not feeling like I can cry any second (thats how bad this month has been)
