I had an MRI of my head (my neuro ordered an MRI because I have trigeminal and occipital neuralgia). The results came back "within normal range" but I continue to have bouts of dissiness, confusion, memory loss, cold hands/feet, shock-like headaches, eye pain, etc.

I went back to my GP with a list of my symptoms and she ordered some more blood tests. Today, I rcvd a call from the GP nurse who sttd that all of my blood test results came back with no sign of Vit B-12 diffency, but asked me to go in for three additional blood tests because I had an elevation in my sedimentation rate(???). The additional blood work will include an ANA, RF (rheumatoid factor), and Uric Acid tests. I was also given a referral to see an Internal Medicine doctor.

I asked the nurse what the additional blood tests are for and all she could tell me was the tests are to rule out any autoimmune diseases. I went on line and read info on Lupus, RA, and Sjrogens but my symptoms seem to identify with MS and not the other diseases.

Isn't MS an autoimmune/inflamation disease? Does an ANA test point to MS or is it done to rule out other causes before an MS diagnosis can be made?

Thank you for any input you can give me.

heya
your doc is doing the right thing by ordering these tests.
My SED rate is also high but its not an absolute indicator for anything really, although it can be high in people with autoimmune condition. however there are plenty of people with elevated sed rates who just have elevated sed rates. lots and lotsof things can make ur sed rate high, including hormones, what you eat, etc.
an ANA can also simply exist in many healthy people, although there are various types and levels of ANA result that can help your doc investigate where to look further.
try not to freak out! please take care
