So I went to the Dr. today for my moderate dysplasia and HPV. I got alot of questions answered finally!
The GYN made me an appointment for a colposcopy next Thursday the 3rd.
I just want to know what I should except from the procedure.
Does it hurt? How long does it last?
Thanks!

Glad that you were finally able to see a gynecologist and that you are feeling a little calmer about the HPV.
The colposcopy doesn't take very long, its just a little uncomfortable, at least thats how it was for me. It's like a pap test in the sense that you are in the same position and it takes a little longer.
The Dr will get you settled as if he was going to do a pap test and then he will spray your cervix with a vinegar solution. If he sees a reaction, an area that turns white, he will take a biopsy. He will numb your cervix first and then just take a snip of the area that turned white. I did feel a little crampy when he did this, but one of the other ladies said that her Dr tells her to cough when he is getting ready to take the sample and that helps.
I'm glad that you are taking care of this and that you have a lot of questions.. :)
Take care

I second Lisa. It's not the most fun 15 minutes you'll have in your life :p but it's by no means the worst, either. Very like a pap, but a bit longer. I remember having a couple of pinches/cramp-like feelings when my doctor took the punch biopsies, but nothing too bad. I felt a litte crampy for awhile afterwards, but nothing an asprin couldn't take care of. Good luck!

It does not last long, and the pain is very little in my opinion. I was terrified to have it done but surprised at how quick and easy it was. Just a bit more than a pap test.
Good luck :)

Im with them. I had it done and I am a big baby with pain. I think it hurt more to have him open me up with those big clamp things then it did to have the biopsy taken. The cramping lasts til you get up and walk around. I thinl the worst part of the procedure is having that coffee ground looking stuff discharge out. But even that ends in like 3 days. You will do great. My motto if I can get through it anyone can!!!!

I had one last month and it was not as bad as I thought. It was abit unconfortable but I wouldn't say it was painful. It lasted about less than 5 minutes. My doctor even let me take a look at the picture of my cervix... :dizzy:
You may have some brownish discharge up to 5 days after the procedure but don't worry about it. It's normal :) Best luck to you.
