my dad has had headaches for over 2 years now constantly with no relief yet to be found.Docotrs have given him many courses of mediaction including beta blockers and none have seemed to work.He has had MRI and many other scans which came up clear and they also linked it to a condition that 30year old pregnant women have! They say that his brain hasnt shrunk and the grissle an dmuscle around his skull is causing increased tension thereofre causing chronic headaches. Last year he had a course of botox where is was injected into his forehead and back of his neck in hope that it woudl release some tensionin the muscle around his skull unofrtunately it was unsuccessful. He has also tried alternative medicine including reflexology and accupucture. i have spoken to someone in america and she mentioned injections in the spine wihc numb th epain in the head.does anyone know any thing about this?thankyou so much.doctors may have given up on my dad but i sure havent:).

Hi teddy2, Just like your dad i have suffered with headaches for many years and have had all the tests and scans and tried different treatments, i have also had the needles in the neck and in my case what they were doing was numbing the nerve that runs up either side of your neck called the occipital nerve, this nerve is attatched to all the nerves that go up the side of your head and neck and send the pain signals to your brain and give you a headache if you numb the nerve it disrupts the signal and lowers the pain involved with your headache. At first the Doctors will numb the nerve to see if it helps and relief will only be for a short period of time, if it works the next thing that can be done if they can burn the nerve using radio frequency and this will give you relief for a much longer period of time this is called a rhizotomy, if i were you i would do a search on the net using some of the info i have given and hopefully get a better understanding of what i have told you...........best of luck and i hope that helps

If it's a 2 yr headache with no break that came on suddenly, it could be the same headache I have, which I've had for about 6.5 months now. New Daily Persistent Headache. It's incredibly difficult to treat and the long-term prognosis is not good. Doctors know very little about it. It's possible it may be caused by other factors though. If your father hasn't gotten a spinal tap done to see if he has a leak in his spinal cord, he should get that done too.

Hi,
Does anybody know or heard of cluster headaches? I was diagnosed as being a cluster headache sufferer many years ago but finally they have gone now. These headaches can last for just a few weeks or if your a chronic sufferer for years. They are the most painful ever and the symptoms are the same for every sufferer. Maybe if you can explain your symptoms in more detail it could help.
