Hi I posted on the neurology forum and I just had a EMG test and the doctor told me I have Bilateral Carpal tunnel in both hands.

I have numbness in my thumb, my pointer finger and middle finger only and Severe Pain in the center of my left hand.

The doctor was oriental so I couldn't understand him to good but said (rare) to his nurse so now I am wondering what really is going on with me.

My feet are killing me also I am having a heck of a time walking for pain.

I am just wondering if anyone thinks the two are connected and what I should be taking for pain. I am on Lyrica but thats not helping.

And I have to wait till my doctor gets the report.

sorry. I used to have carpal tunnel in both arms. It's now only in one. I did have ulnar nerve releases...but that isn't the same thing.

I do have nerve pain in my legs....and now feet. I take neurontin (It works better for me than lyrica), percocet, and ultram. I can function with those meds.

They can't find a cause for my stuff.

If you are going to have the surgery, I'd recommend it based off of my ulnar nerve releases - cause the longer a nerve is compressed, the more permanent damage there is - and muscles waste.

I couldn't fathom guessing on if the 2 are related. I've been dealing with leg/foot/arm nerves hurting for 1 1/2 yrs and they can't even tell me what it is....so who knows.

Thanks for answering I have since been to the podiatrist and he said I have severe planter fasitis and taped my worst foot the left one and gave me a shot in it.

And then to have both hands with carpal tunnel I have to have surgery if my neurologist will do it. He does carpal tunnel patients but I don't have an appointment till the 31 of May.

My family doctor gave me 20 lortab and told me to only take them when its bad-DUUUUUUUUUUUH I told him its bad I can't walk or hold any thing. So I will only take them once in awhile till my twenty are gone then hope I can make it till I see my neurologist.

Oldhen,
I had bilateral cts for 5 years before I said "enough" and had them operated on. I had thumb, pointer and middle finger pain. I had pain that went almost to my elbow. What you describe is typical of cts. I was on Naporsyn for 5 years. It's a prescription form of Aleve. I also have pain in my toes, which I think is from my weight. Are the 2 connected? Not sure. I don't think so in my case. However, I researched it online and you can get the equivalent of carpal tunnel in your feet. I think it's called Tarsal tunnel. I think what I get in my toes is arthritis. Is cts surgery for you? Well, do you drop at least one thing everyday without trying? Are you in constant pain? Do you have to sleep and drive with splints on your hands? I did. I also made the mistake of doing too much too soon and now I have tendonitis in my hands. I am glad I had the operation on both hands and I would do it again. But--keep in mind it will take up to a year to be fully healed. 1-2 months past surgery you will be getting back to normal.

Hey thanks for answering I am just miserable I have constant pain in the base of my thumb left side is the worst. I also get severe pain in center of my hands. My thumb pointer and middle fingers are all numb.

I had neck surgery 6 months ago took out 3 discs and I now have a metal plate in neck.

But my left foot too is killing me he put me on prednesone- I am trying to lose weight and seems these doctors keep giving me meds that cause weight gain and not being to walk for the excrutiating pain doesn't help.

Yes I am going to have the surgery on my hands if my doctor will do it. I am not going to be in pain.

I have an appointment May 31 so untill then I just suffer.

Hi,
I also have biolateral carpal tunnel syndrome. I have needed surgery for 5 yrs. I keep putting it off because so many people I know had the surgery and got no relief, I'm waiting for a better surgeon or a better technique to come around. Both my hans go numb all night long while I try to get some sleep. They also are asleep during the day as well. I've worn wrist splints for yrs now and they do help if I do not use my hands for any type of working, including gardening or anything else. You have to sleep in the braces as well as wear them during the day. I have been told I am starting to lose muscle in my palms of my hands(muscle atrophy)which means it's definitely time for the OR. I also need 3 back surgeries so I don't know which to try to accomplish first. Write me back and we can support one another.

oh sorry but you better get your hands taken care of I heard cpt can cause muscle loss. Thats not good. I have a appointment with my neurosurgeon on May 31st. for my hands.

I would rather go to him cause he did my neck surgery. And he takes wonderful care of his patients.

I know most people go to ortho docs but my neuro does carpal tunnel surgery.

And I figure it's my nerves were dealing with not bones.

Anyhow I hope you find a good doctor.

Peace be with you
