I love my Mom very much but her snoring just drives me up the wall. I can't even sleep in my room anymore (which is beside hers) as the snoring is so loud - even with my door closed, I can't sleep. I had to move downstairs.
Is there anything to cure a "snore," as funny as that sounds. I am willing to help her in any possible way. Any suggestions:confused:

Chronic snoring causes reduction of oxygen flow to the brain which can lead to high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, heart attack and premature death. You need to do some research regarding chronic snoring. In the meantime, wear ear plugs.

Snoring could be from congestion. But congestion shouldn't make snoring that loud. It could also be from Sleep Apnea. Do you know if your mom has any symptoms? If yes, what are they?

Well I've been doing a bit of research on Sleep Apnea and I believe she has some of the symptoms. On one of the websites I was looking at, it said that breathing is interrupted during sleep for at least 10 seconds. This happens to my Mom but not for 10 sec. This is what I observed the other day when she had a nap..... (That's another thing, she is sometimes tired throughout the day and takes various naps 15-30 mins..sometimes more)
She will be sleeping and all of a sudden she will hold her breath and make these strange noises. Almost as if she is breathing with her mouth closed but it seems that the back of her throat is half closed as well. That's what I think because of the noises she makes.
My Mom is overweight. She needs to lose at least 100 lbs and maybe more. She knows she has to lose weight but has never really made an effort to do so. I am looking to buy a treadmill but I had a concern...most treadmills only go up to 250 lb limit and I'm sure she weighs much more than that :(
One procedure I read about is Polyester Implants. It costs $2100 and is not covered by insurance. My mom would never go for that anyway.
I really don't know what to do...

Taking naps frequently is a symptom. Due to people with Sleep Apnea's breathing difficulty while sleeping they never get a good rest, so they are always in need of sleep.
Have your mom go to the doctor and ask for her to get a sleep study.
People with S.A. get a C-PAP machine, which provides oxygen while the patient while they are sleeping to keep them breathing.
Check out the Sleep Disorder boards on here. :)

try those Breathe Right strips. It helps to open the nasal passages so you breath through your nose instead of your mouth. There's no medication in them except the ones for cold. I use them. I was a snorer and my husband is a snorer. He uses them. It also helps me to breath easier and I have a better nights sleep.

I don't snore anymore according to my husband. He's been using a cheaper knock off and they don't seem to work as well as Breathe Right strips. I tried the knock off brand but they didn't do anything for me.
