Zoe, I don't know how much help this would be. I have secondatry Adrenal Ins. caused by Lyme Disease. I cannot take the Cortef because steriods make the Lyme worse so my endo has me taking pregnenolone 50mg twice a day, 4000mg of Biotin, 300 mg. of Magnesium, and a B Complex that also has zinc, and copper. I just started this regimen, so not sure how well it will work, but these are supplements and Vitamins that can be bought over the counter. he also said to make sure to stay away from potassium containing foods like Bananas. And no potatoes, rice, noodles, coffee or soft drinks. And to up my protein intake. I also know that it takes months for you to see improvement when your adrenals are really shot, and if you are only taking the Cortef, but not doing other things to help your adrenals out, then it will not really benefit you. What has your doc advised you to do in addition to the cortef? I know how it is so hard to stay away from the bad things, I have such a hard time with the soft drinks because I have used them for years to keep myself going. I am addicted to them. Good luck with everything and I hope that you start feeling better, Sincerely Sarah

Hi Zoe,
From your description, it sounds that you suffer from several endocrine-related issues as I do. I am also fed up with the medical community. I was fortunate enough to have found a Dr. that ordered the whole barrage of bloodwork. He does not feel a consult is necessary - had his nurse discuss the results with me and referred me to an endo. I have already seen one. I have to travel several hundred miles to see specialists. Most seem to fancy diabetics than deal with us folks that have several issues. More often than not the drugs are worse than the illness and when several are thrown into the mix it gets worse.
I have found, of all professionals, a chiropractor that is doing miraculous things for me. I have learned to manipulate my skull bones to aid in the stimulation of the pituitary as I will not take the cortiocosteriods (due to bad side affects). I am working on imagery and biofeedback techniques to bring my body back. My whole illness journey started in '76 from overdose of antibiotics which led to candida which has since reaked havoc on my whole body but primarily the whole endocrine system. The steriods exaserbate candida; so no can do.
As silly as this may sound, be quite within yourself and start believing you can heal. Focus on the most damaged part of your body first and BELIEVE you will be better. I know when you are so ill it is difficult to focus on this. The mind is incredible and it can work.

Best of luck Zoe - I so empathize.
Sharon
