View Full Version : Trying to Conceive and Abnormal Cells

~Background~
I went for a routine pap during my pre-conception appointment, the results weren’t certain whether or not I had HSIL so my Dr. is sending me for Colposcopy which is in 2 weeks. She also asked me to stop trying to get pregnant - which I understand her reasoning.

~My Million Questions~
We were trying for 6 months at the point that I got word of the abnormal cells. Just wondering if this could have had an effect on us becoming pregnant? I was charting and monitoring my cervical position and do remember feeling a growth on one side – Is that a polyp or could that be abnormal cell changes? And If I am in fact HSIL is pregnancy still a reality? I’m really worried!

Any insight would be much appreciated.

If you do have HSIL, it's most likely moderate or severe dysplasia. You wouldn't feel it, as it would be a lesion on the cervix. If this is the case, it will likely interrupt your plans to have a child further, but not do away with them, by any means. There would be a risk of incompetent cervix and premature rupture of membranes, but mainly with repeat treatment procedures.

I had CIN III w/glandular involvement in '01. I had a leep, cone and another leep (in replace of a hysterectomy), but went on to have another child in '05...and without a cerclage (a stitch to prevent IC). I did begin to shorten and dilate early, but only 1cm at 34 weeks and then it stopped. My water broke at 37 weeks and 4 days...but it broke on it's own with my middle son too (before I had dysplasia). It was even a 17.5 hour labor (w/pitocin for 12.5 hours)...dilated sooo slowly! :dizzy:

Best of luck!
