Hi I have a big 8 hour keyboarding test in which I have to type very fast in some parts of the test, and I've noticed that my right hand REALLY hurts when I practice for the numeric keypad and I loose some mobility in my last two fingers.

What can I do to help avoid that this happens to me in the test?

should I use a splint for the days before the test?

does ADVIL helps with the pain and anti-inflamatory? should I take the advil before the exam or in the break when I start feeling pain?

Is it better an Ice pad or a heat pad??? Is Bengay or Icy Hot good for this syndrome?

Please answer me kind people!!!!:)

Wow, I've never heard of an 8-hour typing test! (And I used to teach keyboarding.)

I imagine that Advil would probably help, especially taking it before the test. I'm not sure about a splint though. It might cause your fingers to become stiff from lack of mobility before the test.

You might also give your doctor a call for more suggestions. I'm sure s/he could help.

Good luck with the test!

Why are you doing this test?

That sounds like Ulnar nerve problems - and the more you do stuff like that, the worse it gets. The worse it gets, the more permanent damage you will have.

Last two fingers? Definitely the ulnar nerve distribution... don't lean on your elbows or rest your arms on armrests or the desk whilst typing or driving. You really have to be ultra-conscious of this; old habits are hard to break.

By the way, I've never tried ben gay or icy hot and the thought of that just makes my eyes water from the pain.
