:rolleyes: Was wondering if anyone new if there is a differance between optic neuritis and orbital myositis??? My optomologist has not got back to me on that yet and I have been diagnosed with arterior scleritis in 2003 and orbital myositis
recently was put on 600mgl anti inflamitorys doc said he did not want to put me on steroids untill I found out if I and MS, I called his office to get more info but he is out of town, so untill then I thought maybe someone would know. appreciate any info , thanks

There is a slight difference in the two Orbital myositis is nflammation of the extraocular muscles of the orbit. it is enlargement of the affected muscles. The most frequent cause of orbital myositis is thyroid ophthalmopathy. Orbital Myositis is also seen in people with Ruhm. arthritis. As for Optic neuritis it is inflammation of the optic nerve. It is one of the causes of acute loss of vision associated with pain. Optic neuritis can be the initial episode for a patient who will subsequently develop multiple sclerosis. The diagnosis of optic neuritis is usually made clinically. Although direct imaging of the optic nerves by MRI is reserved for atypical casessclerosis.
The inflammation of the optic nerve is mainly due to demyelination and can be idiopathic and isolated. However, this disease has a very strong association with multiple sclerosis. Fifteen to 20% of cases of multiple sclerosis manifest as optic neuritis, and 38-50% of patients with multiple sclerosis develop optic neuritis at some point during the course of their disease.

stotz, Hello and thank you for the information, yes it did help,I will pass the info to my reg doctor she had no idea what it was and my optamologist has not got back with her yet, thanks again for taking the time to post the info for me.
