I have the clogged ears and pressure feeling 24/7. And since this started my sleep has been really messed up. I wake up like every hour, and I hear my ears filling up with air pressure or whatever it iis while I try and sleep. Anyone else dealing with this as a lovely addition to all the other annoying problems this has led to.

Let us know what House has to say about all this after your visit tomorrow. Have you tried pinching the nose and swallowing?

Hey Boomer,
I went to the House a few dasys ago, and they really couldnt come up with a reason. Gave me steroids methylprednisone, or something like that, but after a few days , I havnt had any changes. Its now been 24 days total of this crap. They told me to get a cat scan of the temporoal lobes, and ears. i had that done today, and am going back to the HOUSE tomorrow. I am really feeling as if this is something I will just have to deal with the rest of my life. Its a weird and annoying feeling, but i just keep having to tell myself it could always be worse, way worse!

Did you have your records from the other ENT's or did they do their own workup? Did you tell them about the Vicodin exposure? I think that steroids are mainly an attempt to reduce inflammation. Hope they are more helpful next time: let me know what you think of them.

Hey BOOM,
I brought the other records from the other ENTS, and they did the tymponagram again at the HOUSE. Everything looks normal to them. I was there again yesterday, and after the cat scan looked normal, I asked him if there was anyhting else they could try for me. He said we could try a myringotomy? not sure of the spelling, but he poked a hole in my ear drum. Its weird because now when I hold me nose and blow I can hear the air coming through my ear drum, and in the other ear where he didnt do it, I still get the feeling of it filling up. But even though he did this, its still clogged and not really better. Also now in the ear that he poked the hole, I have a feeling of hearing my own voice and everything seems like there is more BASS in sound. Its kinda hard to expliain. This whole thing sucks. Have you ever heard of experiencing stuff like that after a myringtotomy. He didnt put a tube in, just a hole, and said to try it, and if it helped we could then put a tube in, but it obviously is something in my INNER ear I assume, since the full clogging feeling is still there.

That clogging sensation is just a feeling, and you can now tell that it is not coming from the middle ear or eustachian tube because you can blow air right through it. Can't be in the outer ear because they can see that. You would think that any actual changes in hearing would turn up in the testing they've done, unless it is affected at frequencies they don't test (above 8 kHz). If it's any consolation, you should be OK to fly now.

I've looked into myringotomy, and have been told that one such as yours will heal by itself in a short time. By the way, can you tell me how loud it sounded while they did it?

I'm not sure what u mean by 'just a feeling'. Cause I hear popping all the time when I swallow and there is definitely something going on, I think in the inner ear. Also if I lay upside down my ears fill up, and then when i turn over I can hear them make like popping or decreasing air sounds and the pressure releases back to this normal , or what has been normal for the last month feeling. Anyway it wasnt loud at all, they numbed me, and then popped it. I dont remember it being loud.

Thanks for your response and description of the myringotomy, as it's very useful to me and something the docs have never actually experienced for themselves and can't tell me.

So we've been writing back & forth for some time now and this is the first I remember about any description of things changing when you lay down and turn over, or popping sounds when you swallow: I thought it was more of a constant clogging feeling. I'm wondering if there's any one doc you've told the whole story to, including the original medicine OD. Is House done with you, or is there more they want to do? If not, you might consider a referral to the Mayo clinic. The docs there are as good as any, but their system is very different: like medicine in real time. For example, you see some doc, he orders tests, you go and get them right away, bring back the results, maybe he wants a scan so you go to get that and it gets read, you go back, he refers you to another doc, and so on in real time until they resolve it. No waiting for weeks between appointments, just a process that gets you through in a few days (or weeks) what would take many months (or years) in the regular medical system. If your insurance will cover it, it's a thought.

I think the House is kinda done. The only other thing they would do was to put a tube in my ears, but I dont want that because I know that isnt my problem. Somehow the clogged and pressure is in the inner ear I believe. And the tube would help the middle ear, like the myringotomy hasnt helped at all, made it a little worse actually, I am hoping that it feels a tiny bit better once the hole closes. I am really trying to tell myself that it could be worse there are a million diseases out there and ailments that people deal with every day, so I just have to learn and live iwth it. I am not a strong person I guess, because this really has taken a hold of me, and has me completely upset and nervous and feeling like I want to jump out of my own skin, or ears , LOL.
