I have been inserting Vagifem tablets and using lubricating cream for a couple of years and am still experiencing vaginal pain on penetration. My husband and I have had 20+ years of good to great sex. Now, I feel embarrassed, humiliated and scared. I'm afraid of the pain and don't want to have sex even when I have the desire to have sex. Before I began experiencing the pain (a couple of years ago) I did notice a decrease in my desire. I am perimenopausal, mid 50s with regular periods. How do I get rid of the pain? Does it go away after menopause, or does it get worse? Is there an effective way to regain desire? I don't want a sexless marriage. I worry about how this will affect my husband and if he will still want to be with me.

Has your doctor ever suggest for you to get and FSH or hormone blood test. If you hormomes are off it can cause the things you described. The pain can be many things. Like a cyst, or non cancerous tumors, endometriosis, PID.
I have not been told I have premenopause yet but my OBGYN thinks it. I am waiting on my blood tests and I have to go in for a vaginal ultra sound tomorrow for a mass he felt. The mass has been causing me pain with intercourse, feeling like I have to urinate all the time, feeling bloated, pain in my back, very tired.

Hi, Menoblues -- you helped me with vag. dryness ques. -- Anyway, I never had any pain with intercourse until I went off of hrt. I couldn't believe the pain! To counter it, we used a ton of Vagisil Intimate Lubricant Clear Lotion. We must have reapplied it a half dozen times, but it worked. I like it also because it is ph balanced and contains vit. e plus aloe.
From what I understand, vaginal dryness is with us forever after menopause. Maybe, with using the Vagisil and having longer foreplay, the problem may decrease. Take care.
P.S. I had the same feeling about being desired after this occurred. Having an open and honest discussion about may help.
