i was in the hospital a few days ago and they did a CBC and it said i had normal hematocrit. they repeated it the next day and i had decreased hematocrit. what can cause this? on the discharge papers it said i was anemic. what would cause it so suddenly?

By how much did the hematocrit decrease? Did the hemoglobin number stay the same? It's interesting that the doctor would write "anemic" on the discharge papers and not give an explanation or tell you what to do about it. It's also interesting that the doctor didn't look into the anemia more before discharging you. Without knowing what you were in the hospital for, it's hard to say what could be causing the anemia. I imagine the drop wasn't too steep or they would have kept you in, but if you're worried, you can call your doctor and ask him/her what you think caused the drop in hematocrit and what sort of follow-up he/she recommends (re-testing, etc). I wish you the best and hope you find your answer soon.

Maybe just having your blood drawn two days in a row plus whatever stress you were going through in the hospital could have caused it?
