I saw the first thread about IUD's and was just wondering more. I have had the Mirena for about a year and half. I have developed spotting in between periods and a weird mucousy discharge. Most of all I have what feels like morning sickness when I wake up and have had a bout of anxiety/depression return after an 8 year absence. At this point I don't know if its the mental issues or perhaps Mirena side effects or maybe both.

I've had it since September. The weird discharge started in February, and now I feel depressed with no explanation. Can it all be due to Mirena?

I don't know. I have never felt the way I do now and there have been no major lifestyle changes for me. I have been seeing so many doctors lately that I don't want to make yet another appointment...maybe it's time to see my OB. Best of luck and seek help for the depression, don't let it fester.

I had Mirena inserted yesterday (Monday) and so far have not had any problems. Question is though - my OB told me you are supposed to be able to feel the strings? I have checked several times and haven't been able to feel anything. Does anyone else have this problem??

I have had the Mirena IUD for over a year now. I just made an appointment this morning to get it removed. I have had numerous side effects that I've believed to be "just me". I have experienced depression, mood swings, low sex drive, the inability to lose any weight, lack of motivation, low self confidence, and the list could go on. Shoot...my doctor even put me on a anti-depressant. I've NEVER been on any type of medication. My husband even see's a difference in me. I've read many forums where other women have experienced these same things. I've read that doctors will tell you that it's Not the Mirena, however I find it all very coincidental. I am excited to get this thing out of me. I want to feel normal again.

Good Luck to you all!:)

Chvy,

I have had the exact same symptoms. I'm getting mine out June 6th I can't wait. I'm worried I will bleed forever after I get it taken out, but I'll have 2 months to get back to normal before my DH comes back from Afghan.

Let me know how the removal goes. I am really scared because it hurt a lot getting it in. Big part of the reason I didnt have it removed a month ago is my fear of this removal process. I am thinking of asking the Doctor for some Ativan before my appointment or I might not go...even though I know it's the best thing for me. I know they say Motrin but it didnt help a bit when I got it in....plus they thing I'lm allergic to NSAIDS.

i had mirena put in 7-06 and out on 1-07! i gained a significant amount of weight, depression worsened and was always bloated. i expressed my concerns to my doc about having it removed and it being painful so she gave me pain killers and told me to have a driver. the actual removal was a piece of cake. since 1-07, my cycles are normal, not any heavier than normal, weight is still and issue as well as the depression and bloating.

good luck gals!

I will let you know how removal goes. My appt. is next Monday. From what I've read (from numerous other women) I should begin to feel a difference the next day. I'm certainly crossing my fingers!

I'm excited for you. What posts have you read...I can't find them? I'm still so nervous about my removal. Did you hurt really bad when you got yours in? They could hear me screaming in the lobby.

:jester: Hi.
I'm new here, and just had the Mirena IUD put in 5 days ago. I didn't have a lot of pain, as much as discomfort when it was put in, and i'm a chicken! i did have an HSG a couple years ago, and the cramps from that were WAY worse. plus having 2 rounds of IVF to conceive our daughter...i think that helped as far as having stuff done "down there" ya know?

my only thing is that now i have a yeast infection, but i'm prone to them anyway...and when i wipe, i have a mucousy discharge and there's blood in it.

when i was pregnant, for the first 12 weeks, i had to use progesterone vaginal suppositories to help sustain the pregnancy...but i bled the ENTIRE 12 weeks because the suppositories irritated my cervix. can the strings from the Mirena irritate my cervix? if so...i'm wondering if i'm gonna spot & have discharge the entire time it's in. i'm not using the IUD for birth control...but because my periods are HORRIBLY heavy! i do not have PCOS or endometriosis, but my cramps, migranes, flow are just horrible.
i'm hoping & praying that the IUD is answer to this problem.

i'm a little scared reading some of these posts...but it's good to know all sides.
kinda wish i would have researched a bit more, but since i also have high blood pressure, the IUD is really the best choice for me vs bc pills.

thanks for reading!
:)

My only advice to you is to record any side effects and watch yourself for moodiness that is out of the ordinary. I have a history of depression so I am not sure if this current bout is due to the past history of the mirena. I have noticed an inability to lose weight around my midsection (I look about four months pregnany all of the time) and have had some unusual discharge. I'm done with hormonal birth control for now....I'm having my mirena removed ASAP. What you're experiencing sounds normal for the Mirena to me, then again, I'm not a doctor. Good luck! I hope it works for you.

I want to say thank you for all out there who posted their information so that those of us experiencing these side effects could figure out what was causing it!!

A bit about me. I had the mirena inserted almost two years ago, and thought it was the most wonderful thing up until recently. Looking back, I had a few side effects (tiredness, and moodswings, low sex drive) but those were "tolerable". In the last 6 months I started having panic attacks, weight gain, feelings like my heart was going to leap out of my chest, acne, lack of urinary control, night sweats, and had to wear a pad all the time from the clear discharge that made me feel like I had wet my pants. It didn't all come on at once, and I searched for months thinking it was menopausal (even thought I am only 36) had depression, or many other things. It wasn't until I found this board that I was able to put it all together!! THANK YOU! I went in this week and had it removed (my blood pressue was up to 152/89 because of it, and I felt like I was dying!) and within hours my symtoms started to go away!. I am on day 3, and am still achy, but my blood pressure is down, and no more symptoms (other than the ache) I haven't hit the 7-10 day Post Mirena crash I hear about...but am rejoicing I am getting my life back.

For those thinking of getting the Mirena... All drugs are different on all people. Just becasue it doesn't work for some of us, doesn't mean it wont work for you! Just be sure to look out for the side effects ( If you have any) , and be prepared with ALL the information before you step into it. We're all different! I just wish I knew what was going on sooner... I feel like I have missed out on so much because I didn't know.
