Has anyone heard of Nexium being ok during pregnancy? I was on Nexium until I became pregnant. I am only 7 weeks pregnant, but my heartburn is SO bad. It was fully controlled before being pregnant. I really worried there will be nothing I could take. I tried everything before pregnancy and nothing worked except for Nexium. Any ideas??

I wondered the very same thing.... I take losec which is very similar to nexium and when i got pregnant i was worried about what the effects would be on the baby. I am from Canada and i contacted an agency called Mother Risk based i think in Toronto, Canada they test drugs and how safe they are in pregnancy and sent a report to me from which i had my family doctor check over. It was found that it was safe to take during pregnancy. I was so happy because not only did i want another child but that i wouldn't have to suffer with my digestive problems....

Hope this helps..... Congrats!

Yes, this does help. I'm in the US though, I hope that doesn't matter. I will try to email them. It is very hard being pregnant with all the usual symptoms, plus your stomach aches on top of it. It sure would be nice to use it.

Hi, my GE doctor says NOT to take it. I am now TTC and he had me ramp down to get off it before TTC.

Of course, I'm positive he's just being conservative. Noone really gets results from pregnant people so there really is no data, and he's 1 of the many that just thinks "no data = don't risk it".

(I don't know how the Mother Risk does it, because surely noone would volunteer to try her baby through drug tests?)

I wouldn't myself worry about it too much, but maybe try to avoid it, just in case. Personally I don't see how a very innocuous drug like a PPI could be hurtful, but I guess you never know. I'm doing OK myself so far, but if it gets bad, I may pop a Nexium once in a while.

I'm assuming you've tried heavy doses of H2 inhibitors like Zantac?
