View Full Version : ASC-H Results - Biopsy Outcome?

Hello everyone,

I'm a new member to this forum and I've joined in the hopes of seeking some mental relief and support from other women experiencing similar cervical health concerns.

For the past 2.5 years, I have had abnormal paps (all ASCUS) and two colposcopies (biopsy results benign-- cervicitis for the first and condyloma for the second). In addition, I was diagonsed with high-risk HPV last year, so I understand the cause for all this ordeal.

Last month I had another re-pap and my results came back ASC-H (abnormal cells which cannot exclude HSIL) and I am scheduled for a colposcopy in two weeks.

My question is this: How many women here have had this similar pap result (ASC-H)? And what were the results of your colposcopies and biopsies? What is the likelihood of this actually meaning I have HSIL?

My mind is racing and I am freaking out and thinking of the worst-case scenarios. I understand I do not have cancer now, but I just wanted to hear what other women experienced with their ASC-H pap smear results. It's for my piece of mind and as I'm sure you're ALL aware that these abnormal ASCUS, ASCH, CIN 2 or 3, etc is all *very daunting* and very distracting. I'm in a PhD program now and it's all so, so hard to concentrate on my work- how are other women coping with the health stress *and* stress of daily life (school, work, family, etc)? I must say that it nice to find a place where other women are experiencing and voicing the same concerns.

Please, any help or words of wisdom will be most welcomed! Thank you so much! :)

Hi and welcome!!

I haven't had that exact Pap test result, but mine have been ASC-US and then LSIL. The ASC-US biopsies ended up being moderate/severe dysplasia, and the LSIL result turned out to be carcinoma in situ. It seems like you never know from the Pap how the biopsies are going to turn out.

I know what you mean about this all being very distracting. When this whole rollercoaster ride started for me in 2005, I could think of nothing else and was obsessed with researching anything I could find on dysplasia. Now, even though my results are worse this time, I'm not as concerned because I'm also dealing with possible MS, and this whole bad Pap thing is just something I'm trying to get through so I can concentrate on getting answers to my neurological problems and getting my life back.

Hang in there. We're all in this together. Good luck and I hope it all turns out okay.

Hugs,

Lisa

Thank you for you reply Lisa, it means so much to me. The hardest part of all this is the not-knowing-while-you-wait -- but I will try not to dwell on it or obsess over it as that does no good! I truly appreciate your kind words of support and I sincerely hope that your health issues are quickly resolved and that things go back on track for you. :)
