I would say that it is a very good chance you have it. I would see your ob ASAP and talk to him about it.

Is a gen prac. good enough to see? What will he do to determine whether I have PCOS or not?

I went to my Ob/Gyn! He did some blood test, a biopsy of my uterus (to rule out other things), and just by us talking. There is no one test to say it is or its not. I would say it took about a month for my doctor to officially diagnose me with it.

Camina:
My gyn ordered me an inner-ultrasound and also took bloodwork. With the blood work he found extremely high cholesterol (partially heridetary, partially from the PCOS possibly) and he also found I had high testosterone. Those two tests, along with my extremely irregular cycles have led to the diagnosis.
Hope this helped.

They can do an ultrasound of your ovaries (to see if you have the the 'string of pearls or grapes' looking ovaries, where you have several follicles on each ovary-- once you see it on the screen, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about, its pretty clear).
Also they can do some blood tests to check your testosterone level (elevated in PCOS) and also check your LH/ FSH ratio, usually a large LH to FSH ratio can also indicate PCOS (mine is 3:1) 15 to 5 I think.
The old 1990 NIH criteria said you had to have each of the following, hyperandrogenism, irregular or no periods, and polycystic ovaries,-- the new Rotterdam criteria says you can have 2 of the above and considered to have PCOS. Problem is it varies a lot, so someone with PCOS may not have cystic ovaries but other things, I didn't have the hyperandrogenism or hirsutism (hair)- so one dr. kept telling me I didn't have it--it took me a while to be properly diagnosed.
