Hi, I need some advice please.

I started taking Yasmin 20 days ago, on the first day of my period and my period has not stopped since, I've bled right through. Does anyone know if this is something to worry about? I'm really anxious about it.

I don't have any other side effects and I haven't taken a birth control pill for 3 years, when I tried a succession and gave them up because they all gave me side effects of mood swings and depression. I feel fine on Yasmin, aside from fretting about the bleeding.

I'd really appreciate some advice here.

well i use yasmin, and i my bleeding lasted a little longer than expected when i first started- maybe 10 days or so. i'd just give it a little longer, then ask your doctor if it's not the right one for you.

When I was on Yasmin my periods all lasted at least 10 days, I was on that pill for about a year and just switched. Bleeding for 20 days straight though? I would definitely call you doctor.

I'll start by saying what is or should be the most popular sentence in Birth Control conversation..!

Birth control effects everyone differently.

Most BCs have similar common side effects, so I'm not sure the specific brand is really what is causing your long period, or if it's really just your body adjusting. After reading through the boards, if you have, I'm sure you've come across many posts where girls experience break-through bleeding/spotting, never ending periods, or no period at all at first. I think it's really just your body getting used to the new hormones in your body. Give yourself time to adjust. Easier said than done, I know.. noone wants to bleed 5 days, I can't even imagine longer than that!

Generally, 3 months is a good time frame for your body to be fully adjusted to the pills. At the very least, try to finish the entire first pack. If things don't improve after that, then it's your choice to continue using or not.

I think you'll hear/read alot that BC use is really a trival and error process. You have to find that one that works best for you. I was on Yamsin and had great experiences with it. I stopped recently and actually miss it a bit!

You can call your doctor and discuss your concerns. Never hurts to have a doctor's input! Good luck..

Everyone,

Thank you so much for your advice. I think it's tailing off now, and I finish my first pack on Tuesday. I imagine when i take the break in pills my period will start up heavy again but if this doesnt happen or if it goes on longer than a week then I'm going to go get the doctor's advice.

I think you're right about everyone being different and it is a lot for the body to adjust to, but its easy to worry about these things... and having a period this long is SO annoying!

Thanks again! :)
