OUCH! I get the most intense pain in both shins after about 3 minutes on the treadmill. Just as soon as I get a sweat going, I need to stop. I cant run through the pain.

Any advise? I really want to continue using the treadmill, hoping to be able to keep up with my husband who runs marathons.

Good Afternoon,

I had shin splints for the longest time, until I got orthotics. After 3 jogs using these, the pain went away and hasn't returned. They are pricey ($200?) and you have to go to a doctor to get them molded to your feet, but sooo worth it.

Hope this helps.

I used to suffer from the same problem. The cure for me was to do heel raises. Stand on the bottom step of a flight of stairs with just one of your heels resting on the step (you will be standing on one leg when doing this), then slowly lower your toes as far as they will go and then bring them back up, repeat until you can't do any more. Then switch legs. I did this for a month and the pain disappeared, I still do these once a week for maintenance. Hope this helps.

PS. You should also make sure that your sneakers are quality running shoes.

Where is your pain? I have been having severe pain starting at my inner anckle bone and up the leg, is that shin splits or have I done something else. The pain didn't start when I was running I think it came after. I have been fighting through it and it is really bad while I am exercising but it eases of the rest of the day. I tried taking 3 days off but didn't seem to help. I have lost 55lbs and have about 40 to go I can't take a bunch of time off for this the thought of that makes me crazy.
