Good Afternoon,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with pain on their feet when running, in particular right under the arch? If so, any suggestions as to how to get rid of the pain?
I went over on my ankle about 3 years ago, and ever since then I have had trouble running any sort of distance without getting pain under my arch radiating towards my toes.
Thanks for your help!

What kind of pain? Is it deep like in tendons or bone? Or an "over-stretched" feeling? Or more on the surface like a bruise? The only pain I occasionally get in the arch of the foot is a tightness that is usually remedied with a few minutes of stretching.

The pain usually starts out as almost a burning feeling, and then if I keep running (which sadly enough I often do) it turns into sharp pain both on the arch and behind the big toe.
Like I mentioned before, this injury happened 3 years ago, and I stopped running for almost a year to let it heal....my foot feels fine until I run on pavement for any distance longer than a few miles.
Thanks again for your help!

You are in luck my friend as i have the exact same problem.... actually you arent in luck. When i run also, my feet hurt on the arch (left, right, or both feet) and sometimes the area by my big toe on the right foot hurts. Just like you, i feel a burning or someimtes a sharp pain in my feet after/during a run.
I have two problems with my feet 1) they are flat (low arch) and 2) i have a bunion on my right foot.
The low arch can't really be corrected; it can only be prevented from worsening by the use of orthodics (special soles for the shoe with high arches).
The bunion (which is when the joint for the big toe sticks outward due to a bone overgrowth) i had surgery on, but it didnt really fix it and it still hurts. I dont know if you have a bunion or not, but i know that for me pain around the big toe is from my bunion.
There really isnt much of a remedy for flat feet and a bunion. You would know if you had a bunion because the joint visibly sticks out... so i think its most likely that you have flat feet. You said you did something to you ankle, but after that's healed i dont know how it would cause your foot to hurt. Orthodics help but there's no real solution. A few years ago, on doctor recommendation, i took advil daily to relieve the pain. Well, after a year of daily advil use i became nearly immune to the stuff, and now i have problems with acid in my stomach. So however you try to cope with your feet, dont get into the habit of just taking pain medication whenever you run.
Hope this helps you but i really dont know exactly what you have. Please post a response to this!

its called plantar fasciitis and yes an orthotic can definitely help. Keep in mind they are expensive though. You can also get shot injections from a pediatrist to reduce the inflammation.

Good Morning,
Thank you everyone for the responses, especially "absolute0" because it's nice to know that someone is experiencing the same thing I am!
I suspected it had something to do with "flat foot", so I went out and bought a new pair of running shoes that claim to be designed to help correct this. Last night I ran and while the pain was there I *think* it was much better than before!! I'm not sure if I can post product names on this board, but the shoes were Saucany Hurricane 5...I would recommend anyone to try using them (I'm in no way associated with that company!!)
Anyway, I'm want to run a few more times in these shoes before stating that they actually work. If not, I do have a pair of orthotics that I got before my injury and that is my next step....
I'll keep you posted. Thanks again to everyone!!
PS: To "absolute0" -- do you still have pain after you stop running for say 24 hours? Thanks!

To answer the latest question:
Usually not. A few minutes into a run until maybe 20 minutes after a run is when it hurts the most. My feet will continue to hurt for the remainder of the day but not constantly, just little bouts of pain every now and then depending on what im doing.
Im glad to hear about those running shoes- i hope they work for you. I doubt my situation could ever be corrected with the flat feet AND bunion. (PS i think im going to start swimming because it is an aerobic activity and i think it will complement weightlifting well).
