Hi, I am new to this site and was wondering if anyone else was in the same situation. I had a colposcopy which showed adenocarcinoma. I go for a cone biopsy soon to see in it has become invasive or if it is still in the "in situ" phase. I would like to have a child but I was told if it is invasive I would need a hysterechtomy with chemo and/or radiation. If it is not yet invasive, what are the chances that it will come back while I am pregnant as I am terrified it will and will be faced with a gutwrenching decision. My Dr. told me it is more aggressive than the squamous cell type and harder to detect. So, if they take it all out with the cone alone, will it come back? This has all happened so fast. Had normal paps my whole life, then BAM! within 9 months I am told I may have cervical cancer! Has anyone had this that has gone on to have successful pregnancy(s) and has not had this type of cervical cancer come back to haunt them? I have not heard or read any success stories with this condition and am looking for some signs of hope. Any replies will be greatly appreciated

sharona714: First and foremost, welcome to the board! You have definitely come to the right place to ask questions, get suggestions and just get good advice.
I too, have been dx with AIS and am getting my cold knife cone on May 10th. I too, had been diligent with my paps and never had an abnormal one until last month. My head was spinning and I was looking for good outcomes as well.
There are many ladies on this board who have had (and have AIS). Many of them have had the cold knife and have went on to have normal pregnancies.
If the doctor does get it all with the CKC, then yes, there is a chance that it may return, but I'm not sure on percentages. You will be having paps every 3 months, more than likely after the CKC to keep things in check. I'm not 100% sure how it works if you are pregnant, but there are ladies on this board that can help you with that. :)
Please keep us up to date on things if you can!
Take care and God speed,
Tori

Tori, thank you so much for the info. It is very comforting to know that there are (unfortunately)other women in the same situation. I go in for my CKC tomorrow and will let you know how it goes. All the best to you, Sharon

sharona, there was a poster who used to come here who was diagnosed with Stage 1a1 adenocarcinoma. This was diagnosed by a cold knife cone biopsy. She had a second cold knife cone, along with a lymph node dissection to make sure there hadn't been any spread. The recommendation was always to have a hysterectomy, but the oncologist agreed that since the second cone had clear margins, they could try for a baby and discuss the hysterectomy later. She had a baby not that long ago, and is he ever cute! I think they are now exploring the hysterectomy.
Bottom line. If your fertility is very important to you, double check with your oncologist, get a second opinion if you have to. Just thought I'd throw this out there to you so that you can discuss the possibility of this with your oncologist.
Unfortunately I can't remember her username when she posted here, otherwise I would direct you to her posts.
